The university issues separate application forms for separate courses. All the application forms are available on the university website except for B.Arch. Admission to B.Arch. are made through valid NATA score, so candidates will need to apply for NATA exam before applying to the university. Anna University Scholarships
The university provides financial assistance to deserving and meritorious students. A number of scholarships are offered by AU under various criteria. Listed below is brief about the same:
- MBC/ BC Scholarships: This scholarship is awarded to backward category students who are studying in the regular courses. The annual income of the parents should not exceed 2 lakhs.
- SC/ST Scholarship: To be eligible for this, the annual income of the parents should not exceed 2.5 Lakhs. A certificate from Tahsildar is essential as proof of the category.
- Merit-cum-means Minority Scholarship: The students belonging to Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and Sikkim can apply for this. The annual income of their income must not exceed 2.5 Lakhs.
- Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship: This scholarship is for students studying in colleges and universities. To be eligible, a student must score more than 80% marks in HSC exams. They must also maintain 75% attendance in 1st year.
- TN Educational Trust Scholarship: This is available for both UG as well as PG students. The annual income of parents should not exceed 2 lakhs.

Ques. Which is better: Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) or Anna University?
Ans. Anna University is the best among all state universities in Tamil Nadu. It is quite affordable in terms of fees for students coming from a middle-class family. The constituent colleges of the university fall under the top-ranked institutes. However, in terms of curriculum, AU is harder than VIT. But the assessments are easy and direct. VIT boasts of a multicultural environment with students from various parts of the country and even foreign nationals, whereas the students in AU are largely from Tamil Nadu.
Ques. Does Anna University provide admission to students coming from outside of Tamil Nadu?
Ans. Yes, the university offers admission to students from outside of Tamil Nadu. One can apply through ‘Other State Students’ Quota’. The university releases an advertisement in newspapers inviting applications for admission. Selection is mainly through a single-window counseling system which is based on marks scored in the 10+2 exam. Around 150 seats are reserved for other state students distributed among the constituents colleges.
