BTech and MTech dual degree is a 5 year course which will give students a both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Technology or Engineering.  Process of Conversion into a Dual degree The change will be initiated at the end of the 1st semester. Overall GPA of the 1st semester will be considered. This might depend on the vacancies. The process involves filling out a form and signing with the Faculty Advisor and HoD. The strength of a class should not fall below the existing strength by more than 10% and should not go above the sanctioned strength by more than 10% percent. The cut off of the CGPA is 7.5 and higher. After the 7th semester it is not allowed to change the degree from BTech to Dual degree. Ans. IIT-M and IISC both are well-reputed institutes and good options to pursue M.Tech in ECE. However, IISc has a more enhanced approach towards high-end research in MTech. Both the institute offers decent placements for the M.Tech in ECE. IISc has an Office of Career Counselling and Placement(OCCap), which takes care of the placement of the institute. The major recruiters at IISC include Microsoft, Flipkart, Adobe, Qualcomm and government agencies like HP and Bharat Petroleum. The average placement package offered in the 2019 placement drive was 15 lakhs. The internship hiring of the 2020-21 batch had the highest stipend of 1.15 lakh per months while the average was 57,000/- per month.  The average placement rate for MTech at IITM was 66% in the 2019 placement drive. The top recruiters included Google, HCL, Intel, Cisco, IBM, Dell among many other government and international organizations. The average CTC offered was around 12.4 lakhs while the highest was 17.5 lakhs. Comparing the trends in the last few years, it would not be wrong to infer that IISc has better placements when compared to IIT-M when it comes to MTech in ECE.Read more

Ans. The aerospace course in IITM is a well-structured course. IIT M is also the top-ranked IIT in our country (NIRF Ranking-1). The placements for this branch have been consistent over the years. In the 2019 placement drive, the institute witnessed 70% placement offers with an average annual CTC of 16.1 LPA.  ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar is a new course as it was started in 2016 and the first batch will graduate in 2020. The syllabus of ECE follows the curriculum of IIT KGP and incorporates the latest industry trends. The infrastructure in terms of labs, faculty, etc. are commendable at IIT Bhubaneswar, but in terms of placements for this branch, it’s not as good as the aerospace branch at IITM. There are no past placement records for the ECE department but the overall placement rate in 2019 was 90% with an average CTC of 11.44 LPA. While considering the branches individually ECE seems to be a better option than aerospace. ECE opens up a wide array of options, for example, manufacturing jobs, while the scope of the aerospace course in the niche. Finally, if comparing both the courses IIT Bhubaneswar’s ECE may offer good scope due to its traditional nature, but in terms of placements and overall quality of the course, IITM’s aerospace engineering is better.Read more

IITs are well known for engineering, and the stream I was interested in (Engineering Design) was only being offered in IIT Madras. The course is a mix of mechanical and electrical engineering along with relevant product design courses. I also aimed at the Robotics specialization which is provided here after the 5th semester based on the students preferences and CGPA.

Indian Institutes of Technology are most precious institutes in India for engineering. Furthermore, IIT Madras is NIRF rank 1 institute. The guidance of students studying there was also taken into account. Food, Hostels, Overall culture, Placements - all these factors were considered while choosing the college.
