IIT Roorkee Faculty

The faculty at IIT Roorkee is highly qualified, with nearly all professors holding PhDs, and many having studied at prestigious foreign universities. The faculty-to-student ratio varies, but can be as low as 1:20 in some departments. There are approximately 37 professors in the Chemical Engineering department alone. Professors are recognized for their research output and industry experience, and many have published numerous research papers. However, while the faculty is knowledgeable, there are mixed reviews on their teaching effectiveness, with some focusing more on research than on interactive classroom teaching.

The faculty is generally approachable and supportive, but students often rely on self-study to grasp concepts, as teaching methods can be outdated or overly focused on lectures without sufficient engagement. The faculty encourages student involvement in research projects, and there are regular opportunities for summer internships and projects under faculty guidance. Despite these strengths, there is a noted lack of young professors, which some believe would enhance the teaching approach and better connect with current generations.
