Ans. IIT Kharagpur is one of the older establishments of IIT. The dual degree is a 5-year course with BTech in Manufacturing Science and Engineering and MTech in Industrial Engineering and Management. Manufacturing Science is similar to mechanical engineering but also has some differences.  Placement Details:  According to the placement statistics, 95% of students from the dual degrees got placement in 2019 at IIT Kharagpur. Over 50% of students of the program are recruited in the non-core sectors.  The job roles include business analytics, technical analytics, research analytics, consultants, and software developers.  Companies like Tata Steel, L&T, Reliance, Honeywell, Hindustan Unilever, Procter and Gamble, BPCL, Coal India Limited, IOCl and ISRO visited during the placement program.  The average salary offered was 15 lakhs per annum. IIT Bhubaneswar is one of the new IITs. Although it does not have the same reputation as IIT Kharagpur, it offers decent infrastructure and facilities for M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.  Placement Details: According to the 2019 placement highlights the average CTC offered at IIT Bhubaneswar was around 11.4 LPA.  The companies that participated in the placement program were Adobe, Amazon, Accenture, HCL, HPCL, and IOCL. It is difficult to choose which institute is better as the branches are different. Mechanical Engineering is a core subject, thus choosing it will give you several options in your career. Whereas, IIT Kharagpur is more reputed and will be a better option if you want to study and further research on your subject abroad. The institute has many collaborations with foreign universities like the University of Melbourne, Curtin University, University of Wollongong, University of Alberta, and the University of Auckland. So, choose according to your convenience.  Read more

Ans. This totally depends upon your interest in the subject. You should give preference to the subject rather than a degree from college because your subject will shape your future.  The school of water resources is one of the pioneer centers for education and training in water quality and quantity management. There is an advanced research water quality lab in IIT Kharagpur. It is an old IIT and will provide more opportunities for higher studies in foreign universities, people also go to foreign universities from IIT Bhubaneswar but opportunities in IIT KGP will be more.  The water resources have limited scope considering the Indian employment scenario. If you are giving preference to the subject then join IIT Bhubaneswar. If your preference is not the subject then join IIT KGP because exposure and opportunities will be more in IIT KGP. A student planning for Ph.D. after M-tech will have much better scopes in  IIT KGP than IIT Bhubaneswar.   Read more

Ans. Talking about institutes like IIT Patna, IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT Roorkee, and other IITs, they are all part of and contribute to the list of India’s best institutions.  Computer Science Engineering does not require much infrastructure except the basic, hence it can be pursued at any 2nd generation IIT too. Anyway, if you really evaluate all of these IITs then the 2nd gen IITs are no longer considered as new institutes. They have established themselves in the last ten years and have successfully made their mark. Being a part of IIT, the 2nd gen IITs also provide their students with fairly good placement rates and packages. In 2019, there was 100% placement for CSE with average CTC 11.4 LPA in IIT Bhubaneswar. In IIT Patna a total of 50 students from CSE was placed with average CTC 16.76 LPA. Though pursuing Mechanical Engineering from first-gen IITs like IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, or IIT Kharagpur would be more beneficial because being the older institutes from the rest, these institutes have a better atmosphere and the more experienced team of professors. The more experienced faculty at these IITs for Mechanical Engineering eventually adds up a lot to the student’s experience at the institute as well. Studying at an older institute also offers better opportunities, both in the case of internships and placements.  So, the choice of IIT should be based entirely on which course you are interested in.Read more

Ans. ICT Mumbai is a government institution that has been ranked at 18 for Engineering by NIRF in 2019 and is popularly known for its specialization in Chemical Engineering and Technology. IIT Kharagpur on the other hand is a prestigious institute of national importance and has been ranked at 3 for Engineering by India Today. Let us have a look at the Master's programs in Chemical engineering offered by the two institutions and the difference between the placement opportunities offered. The placements highlights for Masters in Chemical Engineering at the institutes are as follows. Particulars IIT Kharagpur ICT Mumbai Placement Rate 87% 75% Number of companies visited 192 companies 75 companies Highest CTC 25.5 LPA 22 LPA Uni work, Capgemini, Accenture are the major recruiters at IIT Kharagpur while, Asian Paints, Cipla, DGS soft are some of the top recruiters at ICT Mumbai. Internship Opportunities: IIT Kharagpur: The institution offers internships with top companies and students are required to register with the placement department in order to be eligible. The faculty members also guide students to choose the best internship for their course. ICT Mumbai: ICT Mumbai has a mandatory internship module at the end of the semester. Since the past decade, 100% of students are assigned internships with top core companies from across the country. Some of these internships are paid and on a stipend basis which allows students to gain experience and learn more about the industry. Core companies: While IIT Kharagpur observes a greater number of companies in its placement drive every year and offers a higher salary package through top companies in India, ICT Mumbai is specifically known for its programs in Chemical Engineering and therefore attract a higher number of core companies, where students get to learn and experience more about the industry they are in. Location: Being located in Mumbai, ICT observes a high number of companies very close to its campus. Students have easier access to companies as compared to IIT Kharagpur, which offers placements with companies from across the country but is relatively secluded compared to the ICT campus location. Therefore, students can make a well-informed choice based on the given factors and choose an institution based on their requirements.Read more

Read more

Ans. IIT is a brand that is more than 60-70 years old and the reputation of IITs for engineering is unmatched. So, it might not be fair to compare IITs with Techno India University as TIU was established in 2002. The expertise, global exposure and hands-on technical training in IITs are unparalleled. If a student gets an opportunity to study in an IIT, be it anywhere, the IIT tag itself is sufficient to get you noticed by the industry professionals.  Techno India University may not be as popular as the IITs, but it is a reputed institution under WBUT. Techno India University is notable for its engineering department. Their school of engineering prepares students with theoretical and practical knowledge about the subject and provides industrial training to enhance the skills of the students. Students involve themselves in workshops, seminars, and interdisciplinary research.  Techno India University takes admission for B.Tech courses through WBJEE, JEE Mains, Techno Joint Entrance Examination whereas IITs take admission through JEE Advanced. As a result, there is a huge difference in the student crowd at these institutes. Students from Techno India University may get job opportunities similar to an IIT graduate but unlike the former, the latter has a higher percentage of getting a larger salary package offered to them. Not only in engineering but in other fields too. The top companies visiting IIT during their placement program are Microsoft, Qualcomm, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, Adobe, Accenture, Samsung, Google, TATA, ONGC, Strategy and Carin, Goldman Sachs, etc. They offer an average salary package of 10-15 lakhs per annum where Companies visiting Techno India University offer an average salary package of 3.5 lakhs per annum. Some companies taking part in the placement process are Byjus, Wipro, TCS, Infosys, IBM, etc. The total fee in IIT is around 9,50,000 and that of Techno India University is 3,56,800 for a BTech. course.   Read more

Ans. Both IISc Bangalore and IITs are recognized internationally. For the field of engineering, IITs are more reputed while for research-oriented core-science subject IISc has a stellar reputation.  Also, most of the professors in reputed foreign universities know about the research culture of IISc. Most of the well-known researchers in India are alumni of IISc; the reason is quite simple, students take admission here solely to pursue their interest in research, unlike IITs, where a majority of students are pursuing engineering just for the sake of it. If any international university ranking is taken into account it would be observed that IISc is constantly ranked higher than the moat top IITs and sometimes even highest of them all. According to QS University Rankings IISc is ranked 190 worldwide and 1st in India and Times Higher Education University Ranking placed IISc at 201 worldwide and 1 in India.  However, if you have the right GPA, good research background, and excellent recommendation, then it does not matter if you are from any IIT or IISc. The professors of the admissions committees of international universities are well aware of both IITs and IISc Bangalore.  Read more

One of the top 7 IIT's in India which are already known for their rich heritage and impeccable campus life. I opted for this specific campus cause i heard about it's campus life which is the best of all IIT's. Also, probably one of the top schools to study Civil Engineering in India as a B.Tech with professors having advanced degrees.

IIT Kharagpur is one of the best engineering colleges of India. The placement in electrical branch is very impressive. Also the IIT tag helps a lot in the service sector for getting a job. Also the college highly promotes research fields and being a research enthusiast and based upon my rank in JEE ADVANCED I happily opted for the college.

The main advantage of our college is increased exposure to the outside world. There are amazing and helpful seniors ready to guide us through any rough patch. Besides, any project under a professor of IIT Kharagpur has its weightage in the concept development as well as in resume. That being said, our college is not all cupcakes and rainbows. The stress to have a decent CGPA, frequent unannounced tests are no cakewalk. But if this pressure is handled in a good way, can prepare us for the cruel world we are about to face after college. I feel it depends on the student's perspective. This college would provide me the platform to explore my qualities (if I have any). With a diverse curriculum...

Over 90% students from BTech get job. Company list and their intake are given every year in Institute website. Salary reaches above 1 cr INR. About 70% of MTech got the job. Few PhD also get the job in college placement drive.

Overall one of the best breeding grounds for under grad students in the country. Driven mostly with the talented pool of students that reach through JEE. A very good nurturing environment provided by academicians, though a lot of scope in creating a more collaborative and progressive view to create one of the world’s best institution.
