Yes, interships are provided by the college. All the students during my time were able to secure internships in good organizations like the ONGC, L&T, IBM and the Business administration dept. also secured good internships for the entire batch. But, no stipend was provided for the same.
Scholarships are offered on merit basis, top scorers in each branch are given a scholarship of 20% of the semester fees. apart from that scholarships are also provided for students of Northeastern domicile.
Exams are held twice a semester, namely mid semeser and the end semester. The mid semesters have a weightage of 20%, end semesters 50% and internals have 30% weightage in all. The internal marks are calculated on the basis of class tests (held every week), conduct and attendance.Practical exams are also held on a bi-semester basis. There is a shortage of labs for Petroleum and civil dept. so lab examinaions for these dept. were held in UPES dehradun.
There are 3 modes for getting into UTM, Shillong. The first being student's score in the JEE mains examination. One can also separately apply for UTM entrance exam. And also, there is a provision to apply on the basis of the marks achieved in Class 12 board exams. If you are a northeastern student, you can expect a relatively lower percentage crieria.
As the college still lacks a campus and runs on rented buildings, hostel options are provided at quite a distance from the college. Those hostels are owned by private entities though college administration may give a visit from time to time. The food quality is average. Most of the students prefer to stay out in rented apartments nearby the college. Average monthly expenditure could range between 7000 - 10000, if you are staying in rented apartments and the same figure, can be quoted for the hostels.
Campus life is good with a healthy gender ratio, except for a few core branches which have a 90% male dominance. Labs are present in campus equipped with all the required facilities and equipments, Sports Competitions are held annually along with technical workshops for all the departments.
The college was setup in 2011, and the engineering branches were made upon in 2012, so the alumni network is not that strong. The senior students have been very helpful throughout the curriculum and one can always look upto them in the advent of any hurdle.
The college at the time of my admission i.e. 2013, was under the management of UPES, Dehradun. So, I secured a seat in the college through UPESEAT (conducted by UPES). But as of now, the college's association with UPES has ended and it is now under the mentorship of MIT, Pune. So, the UPESEAT has been suspended for UTM admissions. So, from this year it would be under the guidance of MIT Pune now
The course curriculum is based on the latest pattern directed as per UGC norms. The subjects and their syllabus are very well devised. Practicals go along with almost all the subjects. Engineering options are made available with a specialization major. There are various specialized courses in streams like computer science (in association with IBM) and civil engineering. Also it is among those select few colleges offering B.Tech. in Petroleum Engineering.
