IIM Sirmaur Admission Process

IIM Sirmaur uses CAT for MBA admissions and IPMAT ATS (Aptitude Test Score) for BMS admissions. There is no management quota. All seats are merit-based.

MBA Admission

Eligibility requires a bachelor’s degree from any recognised university. Minimum aggregate varies by category: 60% for General, EWS, and NC-OBC candidates, 50% for SC, and 45% for ST and PwD. Final-year students may apply provisionally. Work experience is not mandatory but earns selection marks.

  • CAT cutoff context: IIM Sirmaur’s minimum CAT percentile for General category males is 90 percentile. Female candidates have a lower minimum at 85 percentile, reflecting the 40-seat female reservation.
  • Composite score: Final selection is based on CAT score, personal interview, academic record (Class X, Class XII, graduation), work experience (optimal 23 to 35 months for maximum marks), and diversity factors.
  • Female seats: 40 seats out of the total MBA intake are reserved for female candidates, with a separate merit list and lower minimum percentile.
  • Independent admissions: IIM Sirmaur does not participate in JAP. Applications are submitted directly at admissions.iimsirmaur.ac.in.

BMS Admission

The BMS is a 4-year undergraduate management programme - one of a kind among IIMs. Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) and be under 20 years of age as of August 1, 2026 (SC/ST/PwD get 5-year relaxation). A valid IPMAT Aptitude Test Score (ATS) from the 2026 IPMAT exam conducted by IIMs is required. Maximum BMS intake is 120 seats.

  • Exam: IPMAT ATS 2026 (Common IPMAT conducted by IIM Indore and other IIMs)
  • Cutoffs: IPMAT ATS 2026 cutoffs for IIM Sirmaur BMS have been declared. First merit list is released as of August 2026.
  • Eligibility: 60% aggregate in Class 12 for General category (relaxation for reserved categories)

Executive and EMBA Admissions

EMBA, PGDM for Working Professionals, and PGPEX-LSM admit working professionals directly through the IIM Sirmaur portal. CAT or GMAT scores and work experience are evaluated for these tracks. Confirm current eligibility criteria and application cycles at iimsirmaur.ac.in.

IIM Sirmaur, IIM Sambalpur, and IIM Bodh Gaya are all third-generation IIMs established after 2015, run independently (not part of JAP), and serve aspirants with moderate-to-high CAT percentiles seeking an IIM brand outside the top-10 IIMs.

IIM Sirmaur: 48 Answered Questions

Which is better, IIM Sirmaur or GLIM Chennai?

Epil Gagrai

Both IIM Sirmaur and GLIM Chennai are good colleges. However, they have lots of differences as well. Let's have a comparison between IIM Sirmaur and GLIM Chennai on various parameters

Parameters Winner
Brand Value IIM Sirmaur is a clear winner here. The brand value of an IIM is better than most private MBA colleges in India.
Ease of Admission It is difficult to get into an IIM as compared to GLIM Chennai. The cutoff for GLIM Chennai usually remains lower as compared to IIM Sirmaur (CAP Cutoff). This makes GLIM Chennai a winner here.
Return on Investment Both IIM Sirmaur and GLIM Chennai have an average CTC of close to 14.5 LPA but the fees of GLIM Chennai is around 3.5 lacs more than that of IIM Sirmaur making the ROI of GLIM Chennai relatively bad. IIM Sirmaur is a winner here again.
Alumni Strength GLIM Chennai started in 2004 while IIM Sirmaur started in 2015. The Alumni strength of GLIM Chennai is better, however since the gap between these two colleges is just 11 years, in no time IIM Sirmaur will catch up both in terms of Alumni Strength and quality.
Flexibility GLIM offers more flexibility as it has its 1 year Executive MBA which currently IIM Sirmaur lacks. GLIM can be a better option for aspirants who don't want to invest 2 years on an MBA.

GLIM can look like a better option considering above points, but the fact that IIM Sirmaur despite starting 11 years late has managed to give better ROI and similar average CTC makes IIM Sirmaur a better option (assuming similar rate of growth continues for IIM Sirmaur)

Why is the placement gap between baby IIMs and new IIM so much?

Sapna Malik
Epil Gagrai

The main reason for the difference in placements numbers of the New IIMs and the Baby IIMs is recognition in the industry. It's obvious that older and more established IIMs will have a better industry connection, better alumni strength and more experience in attracting quality roles. All these factors are important contributors in the placement of any college. If you look at the average salary stats for new IIMs, it was over 19 lacs for all 6 2nd generation IIMs and over 16 lacs for the baby IIMs for the batch of 2023. The difference is not that huge as such considering baby IIMs are just 5 years younger than 2nd generation IIMs. The gap is more evident in cases where one company is a loyal recruiter from new IIMs and has just started recruiting from baby IIMs. With time this difference will reduce as baby IIMs become more recognized in the industry.

What does a typical placement process for a company look like at IIM Sirmaur?

Sapna Malik
Mansi Jain

First of all, all the students will receive a mail on their official email ids provided by the institute from the Placement Committee about the arrival of a company. Each of these mails will have an eligibility criteria mentioned by the company, the CTC offered by the company, guidelines for the process to be followed as mentioned by the Placement Committee and a Google form to collect CVs and data asked by the company. The data is then sent to the HR who then replies with a list of the shortlisted candidates. These candidates receive another email on the same mail trail with a link to join a WhatsApp group maintained by the committee. Then, the company starts with its processes. Usually, the processes include a GD or an Assignment or a task mentioned by the company. Then, the candidates clearing the initial rounds appear for the final interview. The number of interviews also depends on the company itself. The selected candidates are then informed about their selection via a batch email. Some companies like Amazon, DE Shaw, etc also add an additional Aptitude round. Only the students clearing the cutoffs of the aptitude round are then called for further rounds. This practice of taking a written test is followed by almost all the good companies. Hence, it is advisable for the students to keep in touch with the basics of aptitude even after their CAT exam.

Is there any CGPA criteria for placements at IIM Sirmaur?

Sapna Malik
Mansi Jain
The companies coming to IIM Sirmaur usually don’t have any CGPA criteria. While some companies like HCL require a student to have a 60% criteria throughout their Academia including the first year of MBA, the number of these companies is very less. 1-2 companies like SAP labs, Lenskart, etc also ask the students to have a minimum of 7 CGPA in their first year. Hence, it is recommended that each student should at least maintain a CGPA criteria above 6. This will be enough for the students participating in the Final Placement Process.

Is Life at IIM Sirmaur hectic?

Aafiya
Epil Gagrai

Since it operates from its temporary campus where the hostel facilities are outside the campus for boys, the institute does not promise the same level of rigor one expects from an IIM. The scope of surprise quizzes and assignments and preponement of deadlines is very less because of the lack of necessary facilities provided by the institute. However, on the bright side, this story is expected to change once IIM Sirmaur shifts its operations to the newly built permanent campus.

How was your CAP round interview experience for IIM Sirmaur?

Pranjal Sapra
Mansi Jain

My Profile: Fresher, 9/8/8 Academics, Graduation in Computer Application.

There were two panelists and one of them was from a tech background. My interview started with a question about my introduction. Since I was a BCA graduate, my follow up questions were mostly like: Why is python widely used in the companies? Why do companies prefer Python over JAVA and C++? What is a List and a Queue? Basically, if you are a fresher, you should be well versed with the syllabus of your graduation. Later, I belonged to Jalandhar, so the rest of my questions were: Give me one USP of Jalandhar? What is Jalandhar famous for? Few of the most prominent questions asked to me were: Why MBA after BCA? Why not MCA?

So, I suggest all the students should at least prepare their syllabus from the graduation, thoroughly research about their city, state and about their interests, and must be very clear with the goals for pursuing an MBA.

What does a grading system at IIM Sirmaur look like?

Sapna Malik
Epil Gagrai

At IIM Sirmaur and for that matter, in most IIMs, a following sample structure of grading is followed: -

Component Marks
End Term 25
Mid Term 15
Group Projects 30
Assignments/Quizzes 20
Class Participation  10
Total 100

Please note that the marking scheme varies from faculty to faculty but the above mentioned components are the most used components used by the faculties to award marks to the students. Sometimes, when more than one faculty member teaches a course, the marking scheme splits into two or three and individual professors will have an individual marking scheme with the respect to the total marks bifurcated between the faculty members.

Is it easy to pass an exam at IIM Sirmaur?

Aafiya
Mansi Jain

To be honest, it requires more effort by the student to fail a course than to pass a course. The reason being that a majority part of the grading system is mostly qualitative. This means that if a student completes his assignments, takes part in his group projects and actively participates in a lecture will never fail a subject. The term exams constitute very less and even if a student scores a 0 in his term exams, provided he is an active participant in the rest of the grading schemes, will still not receive even a D. The students suffer mostly because of the lack of enough attendance (which leads to a grade drop) and lack of listening and participation in a course.

What if a student fails a subject at IIM Sirmaur?

Aafiya
Mansi Jain

IIM Sirmaur like most B-schools follow a relative grading. However, each student is required to score an overall 35 marks out of 100 at the end of the course. The grading system varies from faculty to faculty and is relative to the highest marks scored in the course. If a student is below 35 marks, he is considered a failure and awarded an F in the course. A student securing 2 Fs in a year is required to repeat the year. A student securing D, which is basically the lowest grade offered to a student based on the grading scheme, can have utmost 2 Ds in one year. A 3rd D will mean a repeat year. However, Ds are rarely awarded while Fs are common amongst the students.

If you have less than one year of work experience, I would advise taking the CAT exam again because most B-schools provide the highest scores to applicants with between 24 and 36 months of job experience. It would be far more likely for you to convert to a better B-school at the same percentile, and your present package might increase as well. However, if you have more than four years of work experience, consider taking the GMAT and enrolling in one of the top executive MBA programs offered by IIM A or B. An EMBA program's sole drawback is that students' odds of switching to a new field from their prior career are very low. Students already working in a corporation are usually not recommended to join a lower-tier college unless they are extremely sure that the CAT percentile they scored was the best they could have gotten. If this is your best and you are sure that you will not see a rise in your percentile the next year, as well as you are looking for a 2-year MBA program, then IIM Sirmaur is a decent choice.

As per the RTI data of 2023, 4461 students were given the admission offer in the general category. Although the data for merit list-wise waitlist movement is not available, a general thumb of rule is that since IIM Sirmaur has a batch size of 301 students and has almost 104 seats for the General Category, the waitlist would at least move by 2000 - 3000 places. Similarly, if we follow the rule for other categories, the total waitlist movement of EWS, OBC, SC and ST would be around 500 - 600, 1500 - 2000, 700 - 1200 and 400 - 500 respectively.

Do I have to register for Tourism Management Programme separately?

No, you don’t have to register for the Tourism Programme separately. Yes, the interview process happens separately but each student is required to just tick mark the Tourism MBA programme from the list provided by the IIMCAT during the CAT form filling. The fee structure will remain the same as the core MBA programme, but the overall CAT cutoffs will be lower and around 80%ile overall for the general category.
