CBPBU Kolkata Admission 2019: PG Admission, Reservation

Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University (CBPBU), Kolkata is one of the acknowledged universities in West Bengal. The university is endorsed by UGC and its campus is in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. The university has 15 colleges and one institute affiliated to it from the Cooch Behar district.

The university provides education in the fields of Arts, Commerce, Science, and Law. There is 3 undergraduate (UG), 15 post-graduate (PG), and 4 research courses offered by CBPBU.

The selection process for all the courses, except the UG courses, are through an entrance test, which is held in the month of August every year. Selection of the UG courses is completely based on the qualifying examination merit.

CBPBU follows the reservation policies of the Central Government and the West Bengal Government. The region specific reserved seats are applicable throughout all the programs. The percentage of the reserved seats are listed in the following table.

Apart from the above-mentioned reservation policy, the quota for the SC/ST/OBC/PH is considered as per the Government order. The number of reserved seats in these categories is calculated separately for the 60% West Bengal students and for the 40% open category.

In a case of non-availability of SC students, their reserved seats can be converted to ST category and vice versa. Also, if the OBC-A category students are not available, the seat can be converted to ST category. 3% of each category is reserved for PH students.

CBPBU opens the application process in the month of May, July, and January for UG, PG, and research programs, respectively. The application forms can be downloaded online from the college website and can be submitted online after the payment of ? 300/- for Gen and ? 120/- for the other categories.

CBPBU UG Admissions 2019

The admission process for B.A./B.Com./B.Sc. courses start in the month of May. The program duration is 3 academic years for each of the 3 streams.

The criteria for the admission is that the students must have passed 10+2/HSC/Equivalent conducted by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (W.B.C.H.S.E.)/I.S.C./C.B.S.E. with the aggregated marks of 55%, or the aggregated marks of 50% with 60% marks in the subjects applied for admission in Honours. There is a relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/OBCs.

Eligibility

B.A./B.Com./B.Sc.

The university offers 3 years B.A. program in various subjects.

  • The students intended to pursue B.A. need to fulfill the basic eligibility of at least 55% score in aggregate in any discipline from a CBPBU recognized board (W.B.C.H.S.E./C.B.S.E./I.S.C.)
  • The students who have obtained 50% marks in aggregate with 60% marks in the subject applied for Honours will be eligible for admission
  • The percentage of marks comes down by 5% for SC/ST/OBC categories. For the SC/ST/OBC categories. The students of this category should obtain:
    • At least 50% score in aggregate, or
    • At least 45% marks in aggregate with 60% marks in the subject applied for Honours
  • The students should pass at least 4 subjects excluding Environmental Studies/Environmental Education

Note: Out of the 4 subjects, English is a mandatory subject.

  • The students waiting for their final results are also eligible to apply. However, the selection will be considered for submission of final marks sheet within the stated time.
  • The students cannot take up more than one of the following languages as an elective subject:
    • English
    • Bengali
    • Hindi
    • Nepali
    • Arabic
    • Urdu
    • Sanskrit
    • Modern Tibetan
    • Any new language introduced by the university
  • The students pursuing Honours in a subject cannot take up the same subject as elective
  • The students pursuing Honours in a language cannot take up another language as elective

Admission to all the undergraduate programs are strictly based on merit and it is calculated as per the following formula:

CBPBU UG Admissions 2019

CBPBU provides 15 different specializations in 4 major streams – M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., and L.L.M. The admissions to the post-graduate programs start in the month of July every year.

The available courses in the university are:

  • M.A. – Sanskrit, English, Bengali, History, Philosophy, Hindi, Political Science, Education
  • M.Sc. – Geography and Applied Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology

PG Program Durations

The duration of each PG program is 2 academic years.

  • The academic session of CBPBU is July to June, which starts from the 1st July every year
  • Each session is divided into 2 semesters, which makes the total of 4 semesters per PG program
  • The duration of each semester is 6 months

  • The students must have obtained the degree in the relevant fields in the 10+2+3/4 years pattern from a CBPBU recognized university
  • For admission, 60% students are taken in based on the graduation merit list and the rest of the 40% students are taken in based on the entrance test merit list. The entrance test for admission is conducted in the month of August by CBPBU
  • The students appeared in the final semester or final year examination can also apply for admission. However, the selection will be accepted only after the submission of the final marks sheet within the given time

Important Details Regarding Admission

There are a few more conditions regarding the admission followed by CBPBU.

  • If a selected student does not show up for admission within a specific timeline, the admission will be renounced
  • The students declared eligible for admission have to pay all the admission fees within the fixed timeline
  • The selected students need to submit two affidavits at the time of admission to restrain themselves from ragging.
    • A self-declaration affidavit
    • An affidavit from the parent/guardian

Note: Both the documents should be duly verified and signed by a notary.

  • The students cannot take transfer from one department to the other after admission
  • If any of the students fails to attend 50% of the first seven classes, the admission shall be cancelled
  • The eligibility to attend an examination is 75% attendance of the classes and tutorials in each semester

The application forms are available at the Registrar office by paying ? 300/- (for Gen), or ? 120/- (for SC/ST/OBC) in cash/demand draft. The students need to produce photocopies of the relevant documents.

The application form can also be received through post by sending a requisition letter along with the photocopies of the relevant certificates and a bank demand draft of ? 300/- (for Gen), or ? 120/- (for SC/ST/OBC) in the favor of Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University payable at SBI, Cooch Behar Sagar Dighi Square branch.

CBPBU Ph.D. Admissions 2019

CBPBU invites applications for 4 research courses – Bengali, English, History, and Philosophy. The procedure of admissions for the Ph.D. programs starts in the month of January.

Ph.D.

The eligibility for the selection of research students is that they have to pass the post-graduate programs in the respective subjects with at least 55% marks in aggregate.

Ph.D.

  • The application forms will be available at the Registrar office by paying ? 500/- in cash/demand draft. The students need to produce photocopies of the relevant documents at the time of application submission.
  • The students need to submit an application to sit for the qualifying examination, RET, and have to make the payment of ? 1200/- examination application fees in cash/demand draft.

Note: The reverse side of the demand draft should have the name and address of the candidate written on it.
