Campus and Residence

Massachusetts College of Arts and Design only has one campus located in Boston, Massachusetts which has four on-campus residence halls: 

  • TreeHouse – This hall offers suite-style layouts in the form of single, double, and triple bedrooms, housing mostly first-year and sophomore students.
  • Artists’ Residence – A modern area supporting living and work-space needs of the Undergraduate and graduate students. It can accommodate as many as 310 students with maximum 5 in an apartment.
  • Smith Hall – There is a provision of studio workrooms and quiet study rooms on each floor in Smith Hall. There is also access to a shared kitchenette, a community area, and a game room/TV lounge.
  • Rodger’s Hall – It is a five-story residence hall, with one-bedroom and studio apartments. Each room comes with its kitchen and bathroom. This hall is leased from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

MassArt also has a partnership with off-campus residence providers to accommodate the needs of students wishing to reside outside of the campus. More information regarding the same is available here.

Programs Offered at Massachusetts College of Art and Design

MassArt provides undergraduate and graduate degrees, and also some certification programs. Some of the programs in which these degrees are offered are Animation, Photography, Illustration, Film/Video, Painting, Sculpture, etc.

Certification programs are available in the following fields:

All you need to know about the Admission Process

Pre-requisites: 

  • Academic transcripts should be submitted directly by the high school of Common Application (portal)
  • At least 2 letters of recommendation
  • A 500-word essay
  • Certificate of Finance
  • Portfolio of Artwork
  • A Resume/A list of activities, interests, and honours
  • Proof of English proficiency if you come from a country where English is not a native language.

How to Apply?

  • The student has to make sure that the prerequisites are met before filling the application form on the Common Application portal.
  • An application fee of 60 USD has to be filled with 10 USD for portfolio submission.
  • After the requirements have been met, students can start filling the application available on Common Application.

Financial Aid Available

No financial aid is offered to students coming from outside the USA to study at Massachusetts College of Arts and Design. International students can apply for a private student loan with a creditworthy U.S. citizen or a non-citizen permanent resident as a co-signer.

Some of the scholarships and other financial aid offered to domestic students are: 

  • Financial Assistance Programs
  • Federal Pell Grant: These do not have to be repaid and are only awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelors or professional degree.
  • Federal Direct Student Loan Program (Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans): For Direct Subsidized Loans, the federal government pays the interest for the student while he or she is in school and during the grace period before repayment begins. For Direct Unsubsidized Loans, the student is responsible for the interest accrued while in school, grace and deferment periods.
  • Federal Direct plus loans
  • Federal Veterans’ Benefits
