Admissions at Elizabeth City State University appear to be moderately selective as the acceptance rate for undergraduate admissions was 60% for fall 2018. ECSU enrolls a total of 1678 students and almost 97% of these students were enrolled in undergraduate programs.

For the academic session 2018-2019, the university received a total of 2461 applicants out of which 1463 candidates were offered admission, and only 418 enrolled (freshman admission data for Fall 2018).

Elizabeth City State University International Student Admissions

The admission process for International applicants at ECSU is not too different from US applicants.International candidates just need to provide English language scores, sealed official transcripts and some additional documents.

Admission Requirements for International Students

  • A copy of a high school diploma and certificates along with the transcripts (can email also)
  • Proof of bank statement showing sufficient funds to attend ECSU
  • A copy of passport is necessary
  • TOEFL scores if candidates native language is not English
  • ACT/SAT/GPA scores
  • If applying for a graduate course, Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Candidates can apply online but they also have to fill the form physically
  • Health form along with valid visa
  • Other requirements may vary or depending on the selection of your course

Transfer Students

All applicants whether domestic or international who have attended a post-secondary institution or college or university for any length of time since graduating high school are considered as transfer students.

Transfer applicants must also meet all minimum transfer requirements. Transfer students will have to evaluate their transcripts in relation to the requirements of the specific academic program for which the candidate is applying.

Courses which are being transferred must be equivalent to the respective courses in degree programs at ECSU. If the selected course grade level is below ‘C’ than it can’t be transferred. University will only accept courses from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Transfer students must have at least 24 transferable credit hours and a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Transfer applicants with fewer than 24 transferable credit hours must submit high school transcripts, along with SAT/ACT scores and meet (MCRs) to be considered for admission.
  • Application fee is same (30$) for transfer students.

English Proficiency Test Score for International Students

International applicants can submit the TOEFL and/or IELTS scores to demonstrate English proficiency.

Visa Process for International Students

  • International applicants can obtain Form I-20 from the university (available online on university official website)
  • Applicants need to provide financial proof or sponsor letter, passport copy etc. necessary documents.
  • After filling the I-20 and candidate have pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of 200USD online.
  • Applicants then need to apply for the F-1 or J-1 visa (according to program requirement).
  • Visit embassy and give interview and applicant can get visa after that.

Elizabeth City State University Undergraduate Admissions

To considered as freshman for admissions to Elizabeth City State University, candidates must meet the Minimum Course Requirements (MCRs) and Minimum Admissions Requirements (MARs) required by the University of North Carolina. The specific requirements are as follows:

  • 4 units of English
  • 4 units of Mathematics
    • Algebra I and II, geometry, and one unit beyond Algebra II,
    • Algebra I and II, and two units beyond Algebra II, or
    • Integrated Math I, II, and III, and one unit beyond Integrated Math III.
  • 3 units of Science (Biological, Physical, and Laboratory Courses)
  • 2 units of Social Studies
  • 2 units of Foreign Language

For Domestic students only

The University offers Rising Viking Scholars Program (MAR Pilot Program) which aims to provide an opportunity to in-state degree-seeking applicants. But the prospective applicant must be a non-transfer student and a North Carolina resident.

What is means for the candidate?

If applicant’s cumulative, weighted GPA is at least 2.6 and their SAT/ACT scores meet the minimum requirements, the MAR Pilot Program is an alternative option for admission that may allow the candidate to get accepted into ECSU. The admission procedure for this program is based on a "sliding step scale".
