The University of Alaska Southeast has been accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) since 1983. It offers undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and certificates in various disciplines such as Teaching, Education, and Public Administration. The University of Alaska Southeast also offers courses like marine biology, biology, education, business, outdoor studies, fisheries, workforce development, and maritime training, which are specially designed to meet the needs of Alaska. Bachelor’s degrees in the liberal arts and social sciences are also provided, both online and offline.

The University of Alaska, Southeast International Admissions

International students can only be admitted through the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP). One does not need to apply for admission unless he/she completes the certificate in Outdoor Skills and Leadership. After acceptance and confirmation of placement, the UAS Study Away Coordinator contacts the student via e-mail. The fall semester deadline for international students in outdoor skills is July 1.

Academic Requirements:

  • Recommendation letter: Three professional references are required.

  • Essay/Statement of Professional Objectives: It should be of about 1000 words having the details of past publications and/or non – profit experiences outlining professional goals.
  • College transcript: It should include the details of the bachelor’s degree or any other program taken before applying to graduate.
    • Transcript in English: It is to be sent to the university directly.
    • Transcript not in English: It is to be sent to World Education Services (WES) for evaluation.
  • English Proficiency test scores.
  • Proof of required health insurance.

Outdoor Skill and Leadership

An exchange student of Outdoor Skill and Leadership has to submit additional documents.

  • A resume or list of skills and certifications
  • An essay describing the student’s goals and why the student is interested in the program.
  • Medical Information questionnaire (available on the official website)
  • Physician’s Signature Form (available on the official website)

If the transcript is in English, submit the official transcript to Admission Office.

If the transcript is not in English, submit the official transcript to World Education Services (WES) for evaluation.

Student Visa (I-20-A-B) For International Students

The University of Alaska Southeast designates school will send the international student I-20-A-B forms after his/her admission. The form I-20-A-B is necessary to obtain an F – 1 student Visa. The student has to contact his/her home country’s embassy or consulate. The embassy or consulate will give the student the desired F – 1 visa.

The University must certify to the Immigration and Naturalization Service that the prospective student has been accepted for full-time enrolment and has sufficient funds to meet estimated expenses for the full period of study.

The students who have completed high schools who have not attended college or have attended college for less than 1 year are eligible to apply for undergraduate admissions at the University of Alaska Southeast.

Admission requirements are as follows:

  • High school transcript: School has to send the transcript directly to the university.
  • College transcript: If taken college outside University of Alaska Southeast, the college has to send the transcript directly to the university.
    • In case, the transcript is to be given in person, it is to be in a sealed envelope from the school/college
  • Test scores: SAT/ACT scores are to be sent directly to the university. The SAT code is 4897 and ACT code is 0513.

Note: One who has been graduated from high school with a GPA not less than 3.00, passes a high school core curriculum, and completed ACT/SAT can apply. Otherwise, he/she should have been graduated from high school with a GPA not less than 2.50, pass a high school core curriculum, and completed ACT with a score of at least 18 or SAT with a score of at least 955 can apply.

It is recommended to submit ACT/SAT scores, however, it is not compulsory but it can enhance the chances of getting admitted. GMAT or GRE scores are not required for graduate admission.

  • College transcript: It should include the details of the bachelor’s degree or any other program taken before applying to the graduate program.

The University of Alaska Southeast offers a variety of undergraduate courses and graduate courses. The application form is available on the online portal on the official website. FAQs

Ques. How long does it take to process the application?

Ans. It normally takes 1 – 2 business days to process the application. The students will receive an email after the university received their application. They will also mention any requirements if needed.

Ques. What if one did not take the ACT or SAT?

Ans. ACT or SAT score is not compulsory. If submitted, it will enhance the chances of getting admitted. However, one can apply to an associate degree program and after completion of the 1st year, he/she can easily transfer to their intended major.

Ans. No. GRE scores are not required for graduate admission.
