It was founded on January 22, 1847, as The Literary and Theological Institute with affiliation to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America with an initial record of 79 students but now boasts of 2,800 students. The location is beautiful, close connection with faculty, small student base and thus small class sizes to facilitate personalized learning, a promise for large amounts of opportunities postgraduate.
There are only a few truly unnecessary classes, and those are specifics regarding the prerequisites of higher-level courses in my field particularly, mostly due to redundancy (i.e Ecology after already taking Environmental science, etc). It's otherwise very well curated.
