Viterbo University is a private, liberal arts university offering more than 40 undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs. Founded in 1890, the university is affiliated with Roman Catholic and Franciscan values.

Viterbo offers admission in more than 40 majors for students tostudy in the USA. The main campus is situated in La Crosse city in Wisconsin and has an international student population of about 3%. Students are offered a range of services on campus such as career services and international student services. Accommodation is available on campus in both residence halls as well as apartment buildings.

International students must apply online and as early as possible in order to allow time for processing of their applications. Several types of scholarship awards are open to international students who meet all the requirements.

Programs, Campus, and Residence

Programs

Viterbo University offers various programs at undergraduate and graduate-level programs. Students can choose from over 40 majors and programs, offered by the - College of Nursing, Health and Human Behaviour, College of Education, Engineering and Sciences and the College of Business, Performing Arts, and Leadership/ There are more than 1539 unique courses to choose from at Viterbo.

The university also offers brief, study abroad programs under the guidance of the Viterbo University faculty to locations such as - South Africa, China, Costa Rica, Belize, etc.

Campus

The main campus of Viterbo University is located at La Crosse, Wisconsin which has been voted by Outdoor magazine as #11 amongst the Top 16 cities to reside in, in the US. The university has satellite centers in West Allis, Wisconsin and in Des Moines, Iowa.

A wide range of student services is available on campus including, health and emergency services, counseling services and a special International student services center.

There are recreational facilities on campus such as athletics and sports and numerous clubs. For those inclined towards serving the community, there are various options for doing voluntary activities and the campus also has its own San Damiano Chapel and campus ministry. There are all the necessary amenities on campus, such as a library, bookstore, campus store, and cafeterias.

Residence

Viterbo offers on-campus housing in 2 residence halls – Bonaventure and Marian. Usually, freshmen students are allocated these for the purpose of residence. Students can also look for off-campus studenthousing to stay in the US.

Bonaventure Hall is a 6 story hall capable of housing 200 students. It is well furnished and well equipped with amenities such as internet access, cable TV, laundry facilities as well as a kitchenette, microwave, TV, DVD player, and study space with a computer on each floor.

Marian Hall has 3 floors with a housing capacity of 90. Each of the rooms has internet and cable TV connection and the hall has laundry facilities.

Apart from these residence halls, the campus has 6 apartment buildings for senior students. These are - La Verna Apartments, Canticle House, Clare Apartments, McDonald Terrace, Rose Terrace, and Treacy Apartments.

  • La Verna offers furnished apartments for both junior and senior students and has a capacity of housing 80 students.
  • Canticle House has 2 separate furnished, apartment buildings and it is co-educational and can house 40 sophomore students.
  • Clare apartments offer furnished, 4 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and studio apartments for both junior and senior students and can accommodate 118 students in total.
  • McDonald Terrace is a furnished double-story apartment building, capable of housing 75 sophomore students.
  • Rose Terrace is a four-story, furnished, coeducational apartment building and has the capacity to house 90 sophomore students.
  • Treacy House is a furnished double-story apartment building offering co-educational accommodation for 45 sophomore students wherein each apartment is shared by 4 students.

On-campus resident students need to select a meal plan from the 3 available meal plans through the Residential Life office.

Admission Process

Viterbo University offers admission to International students who need to follow a set of guidelines laid down specifically for them, at the time of application. Admissions are granted on a rolling basis. However, international students are advised to apply as early as possible in order to allow sufficient time for processes connected to international applications.

Application process –

  • Students need to apply online at Onliine Application Portal
  • The application must be accompanied by all transcripts and degree certificate(s) from all high school/secondary schools attended showing all courses taken and all grades received. These must be in English and must carry the original seal or signature of the registrar of the institutions attended.
  • International students must submit the copy of the biographical page of their valid passports.
  • Students must submit original official bank statements demonstrating that they have the necessary funds to meet the tuition and living costs of at least one academic year at Viterbo University. 
    • This must be shown in US dollars. 
    • Students may provide these by either logging into their account, created at the time of application or by sending scanned copies of bank statements as email attachments.
  • Sponsored students must provide an original, completed Certification of Finances.
  • On acceptance to Viterbo University, students must first submit all the relevant financial documents and must open an account on the UEMS website
    • Which, in turn, notifies the university of the applicant’s request for the acceptance packet and I-20 form. 
    • On these becoming ready for shipment, the university informs the student and the student can then request shipment by using their Viterbo ID number, mailing address, email address, telephone number, and credit card information.
  • International students are required to submit any one of the following test scores as evidence of English proficiency –

  • Students falling short of these English requirements, but meeting all other requirements may be given conditional admission to Viterbo University.
  • International students must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.

Financial Aid

Viterbo University offers financial aid to students in the form of scholarships. All international students may apply for freshman academic scholarships, provided they meet the specific requirements.

The following are the kinds of available scholarships –

  1. Heritage scholarship – Students applying to this scholarship must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.75 and must consistently attain a renewal GPA of at least 2.5. The award amount for this scholarship is 10,000 USD for students residing on campus and 8,000 USD for those residing off-campus.
  2. Hallmark scholarship – For this scholarship, students must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.20 and must consistently attain a renewal GPA of at least 2.75. For on-campus students, the award is of 11000 USD and 9,000 USD for off-campus students.
  3. Dean's scholarship – The minimum required high school GPA for this scholarship is 3.60 and the minimum required renewal GPA is 3.00. For on-campus students, the award money is 12,000 USD and is 10,000 USD for off-campus students.
  4. President's scholarship – for this scholarship, students must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.80 and must consistently attain a renewal GPA of at least 3.30. On-campus students are awarded 14,000 USD and off-campus students are awarded 12,000 USD under this scholarship.
  5. External Scholarship – international students can look for externalscholarships to study in the USA.

All awardees must be full-time students with a minimum of 12 traditional undergraduate non-ESL credits and are compulsorily required to volunteer as United Nations of Viterbo (international club) leaders, failing which, their renewals may get canceled.

Alumni Network

Viterbo University has a strong alumni network and provides certain benefits to its alumni. Some of these are listed below –

  • The Career Services Office, of the university, at Murphy Centre, offers free resume designing and counseling services.
