Bethany is a small, private college providing aimed at providing personal attention and engaging its student body in learning both inside and outside the classroom. Starting its first batch in 1881, affiliated with the Lutheran Church, Bethany College now boasts of an extremely strong faculty and excellent educational and recreational resources.

Located in Lindsborg, also known as Little Sweden. The college maintains many Swedish traditions and festivals, providing a Swedish ambiance for its students while studying in the USA. The city of Lindsborg is a friendly college town known especially for art and music. Lindsborg abounds with artist studios, art galleries, craft shops, import gift shops, and other attractions, including Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery on Bethany Campus.

From personal community attention to students getting an international experience through meeting people from all over the world with different cultures, Bethany is known to provide an amazing experience to international students. The students are also provided with routine educational courses as well as proper sports facilities. 

Quick fact: The ‘Bethany Swedes’ is a part of the NAIA and is primarily known to compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference(KCAC).

Programs

The university offers more than 60 baccalaureate degrees to choose from. With a student-faculty ratio of 16:1, the small class sizes here at Bethany ensure proper interaction between students and teachers. 

  • Bethany College offers its courses in fields such as Media Arts, Biology and Chemistry, Business, English, Communication and Theatre Arts, Criminal Justice, Education, health, Physical Education & Athletic Training, History & Political Science, Mathematics & Physics, Music, Psychology, Religion & Philosophy.
  • Courses related to business, management, marketing, and related support services are among the most popular courses.

Campus

  • With a 1,300-acre campus size, Bethany is a small college of National Distinction. 
  • Situated in Lindsborg, Kansas, that has an amiable environment throughout the year, the campus is close to natural sightings and several other activities such as - kayaking and horseback riding. 
  • Bethany also incorporates three coeducational and two gender-specific residential halls for students who decide to live on campus as a part of their academic journey. The small class sizes ensure better student-teacher interaction in class.

Since varsity sports is an integral part of the Bethany experience, Bethany is known for its outstanding athletic teams and is home to more than 22 varsity and intramural sports teams. 

Accommodation

  • Three residential halls are coeducational: Alma Swensson Hall, Gregory Hall, and New Hall.
  • Warner Hall provides student housing to only male students.
  • Anna Marm Hall houses only female students.
  • Swede Suites is an apartment-style unit for upper-class students.
  • Meal Plans
    • Full Meal Plan- 19 meals/week- 5,000 USD
    • Modified Meal Plan- 14 meals/ week- 4,600 USD
    • Commuter Plan- 7 meals/week- 3,100 USD

Quick fact: The college follows a tradition of opening its main gates only twice: during convocation and graduation.

Admission Process

How to Apply – Interested candidates are required to fill an online application form either from the university’s official website or through Common Application.

Application Fee – No application fee is required.

When to Apply – Although the college has rolling admission deadlines, international candidates who are seeking to get admission in the college are advised to apply as per the US Academic Calendar(kindly refer to the university website for the same).

  • Official school transcript(s) evaluated and translated by a member of NACES
  • Official ACT/SAT scores
  • TOEFL results for non-native English students
    • Minimum scores required:
      • TOEFL(PBT): 525
      • TOEFL- (iBT): 71
  • Students need to possess the following educational qualifications:
    • A minimum ACT score of 18, or
    • Minimum Composite or SAT score (critical reading and math) of 860;
    • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.0

Scholarships and Financial Aids

Bethany College provides various financial aid programs to the domestic students enrolled in a degree-seeking or certificate program. These financial aid programs include federal, state, and institutional aid. Future students are advised to give their utmost attention to the admission application since the scholarships and awards will be offered to students based on a complete review of the application.

Although the college provides financial aid and scholarships to its incoming students, the majority of these scholarships are reserved for the domestic population only. Thus, international students are advised to look for external scholarships to study in the USA.

Work While you Study

Bethany College provides personal, one-on-one career advising which helps its students develop professional skills and interests, by presenting themselves confidently in resumes, cover letters, interviews, etc.

The college provides Institutional Work-Study for international students who are not eligible for federal work-study programs. Since the college has a handful of positions available within certain departments only, interested candidates are advised to contact a department directly prior to applying. 

  • Employment activities include clerical maintenance, instructional support, and recreational services, etc.
  • Students are not allowed to work for more than 20 hours per week.
  • Interested candidates can apply for on-campus jobs at the Career Services Office.
  • Experience-Based Education (EBE) Program - an internship program designed to provide a professional experience to students along with regular classroom courses. This helps students to explore various career fields to establish networks, etc.

Quick fact: Being a member of the Kansas Independent College Association (KICA), Bethany provides courses in special education and athletic training at a central location in any of the member institutions.

Alumni Network

Bethany College Alumni Association, a 21-member council, comprising of students who have completed at least one academic semester at Bethany as eligible members. This association meets twice a year to support students through volunteer services, fundraiser events, special events, and staff advisement. Some of the notable alumni are as follows:
