American Jewish University is a private university located in California. It was founded in the year 1947 and currently operates on two campuses: Familian campus at Bel Air and the Brandeis Bardin campus at Simi Valley. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs under four schools.

WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) has accredited all academic programs offered at American Jewish University. The university has four residence halls that provide double residency rooms. International students can apply for scholarships, grants and work-study programs to pay for tuition and housing costs.

American Jewish University Campus

American Jewish University has two campuses: Familian Campus and Brandeis Bardin Campus.

  • Familian campus is situated at Bel Air and the Brandeis Bardin campus at Simi Valley.
  • Admin buildings, classrooms and residential buildings are located at Familian Campus.
  • Brandeis Bardin campus is over 2200 acre wide. It houses Camp Alonim, the Ziering Brandeis Collegiate Institute, Sundays in the Park, and a comprehensive conference and events centre.

American Jewish University Programs

American Jewish University offers programs through four colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, Graduate Center for Jewish Education, Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies and Graduate School of Nonprofit Management.

  • All the schools offer undergraduate and graduate degrees
  • The Graduate School of Nonprofit Management offers an MBA degree.
  • The university also has a joint degree program where applicants can earn a bachelor’s and a masters degree in one go.
  • The Brandeis Bardin campus also offers a Jewish Experiential Nature Educator Fellowship. 

American Jewish University Residence

American Jewish University has a total of 4 residence halls. Each residence hall has 24 rooms, a kitchen and common areas. Rooms are furnished with two twin-sized beds, two desks, two dressers and two closets. Two students are assigned to stay in one room together. 

Students can dine in the university’s dining hall, ‘The Berg’. Student’s who choose to dine in the dining hall can get a meal plan which allows for 12 or 19 meals a week.

Admission Process at American Jewish University

Application Portal: For graduate admissions, applicants must use the university’s application portal. Undergraduate admissions are being paused for the time being and new students are not accepted.

Application Fee: A 50 USD application fee is required.

Application Deadline: Application deadlines are different for different programs. 

Admission Requirements: Official transcripts from previous studies, A written statement or an essay, Prior teaching experience for the education degrees, Letters of recommendations, GMAT or GRE test score for MBA program admission

English Proficiency Requirement:TOEFL score is required as proof of English proficiency.

Scholarships/Financial Aids

Students who wish to study at American Jewish University have access to merit-based and need-based financial aid. Applicants need to fill out the FAFSA form to apply for financial aid. 

Undergraduate Scholarships and Grants

  • The Presidential Scholarship awards 80% to 100% of the applicant's tuition and requires a 3.75 GPA.
  • Dean’s Merit Scholarship awards 50% to 70% of the tuition and applicants must have a 3.2 GPA.
  • The AJU Opportunity Grant awards 2,500 USD to 10,000 USD on a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Students who complete a gap year programme are awarded the Gap Year Scholarship of 7,500 USD per academic year at a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • The AJU Housing Grant pays for the on-campus double occupancy housing for one year for students whose home is more than 75 plus miles away.

Graduate Scholarships and Grants

  • MBA Changemaker Scholarship is for all MBA applicants. The merit-based scholarship awards 50% to 80% of the applicant's tuition for both academic years.
  • Bookman Family Scholarship for Working Professionals is for new and current MBA students. Amount awarded differs from applicant to applicant.
  • AJU Tuition Grants are awarded by the university to full-time students to help pay for tuition and/or on-campus housing costs. This is a need-based grant that is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Work-Study Program

American Jewish University has a work-study program where students are assigned part-time jobs. The pay from the jobs is used to pay for tuition and housing costs of the student. This program also helps students in building resumes and skills. They have the advantage of flexible schedules and extra pocket money. Applications for the Work-Study program are accepted through the FAFSA form.
