Otis College of Art and Design Freshman admissions

University offers 19 minor and 7 major undergraduate programs. The admission requirements for these programs are discussed below.

Documents Required:

  • Official high school transcript. International applicants are required to submit a translated transcript if it’s not in English.
  • Portfolio: Applicants are required to submit 10-15 pieces of best work. Applicants can submit their work online through slide room on the common application. Submitting a portfolio through slide room will cost applicants 10 USD. Artwork can be any medium and should include the following:
    • Animation
    • Drafting
    • Drawing
    • Mixed media, etc.
  • Applicants have to include 5 examples of other work mediums whose work is in Digital or video/photo. Medium of art should showcase the applicants abilities.
  • Personal statement: Applicants have to describe their background and interest in studying art and design, in about 500 words. The statement can be submitted through the common application.
  • SAT and ACT test scores: Applicants can submit test scores with the application. However, test scores are not required.
  • English proficiency test is required for international applicants.

Otis College of Art and Design Transfer Admissions

Transfer applicants can be admitted in the university at the sophomore or junior level. Please note that transfer applications are accepted in the fall and spring semester.

Documents required:

  • Applicants are required to submit official high school transcript and official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • A course by course transcript evaluation from World Education Services is required from International Transfer Applicants.
  • Portfolio: Transfer applicants applying for the major are required to submit work that is appropriate to its level.
  • Personal statement
  • Transfer applicants are not required to submit standardized test scores.
  • Undergraduate applicant can be awarded a maximum of 63 transfer credits.
  • In order to receive credit, applicants are required to earn a grade of ‘C’ or greater than that in each class.
  • Applicants have to include 5 examples of other work mediums whose work is in Digital or video/photo.

Otis College of Art and Design Graduate admissions

Otis College of Art and Design offers 3 three graduate programs MFA Fine Arts, MFA Graphic Design and MFA Writing.

Application portal: Applicants can apply through the university’s graduate online application portal.

Documents required:

  • Official transcript of bachelor's degree
  • Applicants can upload a resume with the application.
  • Statement: Applicants have to describe what their hopes to advance work through graduate study. Statement can be uploaded with the application.
  • Portfolio: applicants applying for Fine Arts, Graphic Design or Social Practice have to submit 10-15 images and for writing course applicants have to submit writing sample.
  • 3 Letter of recommendation can be submitted but is optional.
  • As a part of admission process departments can request the applicants for the Interview over video conference.

Early decision will be given to early action applicants who will submit their application and all documents by December 1. An early decision is given by mid-January. Applicants will be notified about admission decision after submitting all the documents required.
