Bethany Lutheran College (BLC), established in 1927, is a private Christian liberal arts college located in the heart of Mankato, Minnesota. It is owned and operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. The 20-hectare campus offers multiple programs including varsity sports programs. BLC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Bethany Lutheran College offers a total of 60 programs offering 26 majors, 25 minors and 9 pre-professional programs. It has a total enrollment of 750 students, with a gender distribution of 48% male students and 52% female students in the undergraduate program (fall 2018) in the college. Bethany Lutheran College Campus and Residence

The 20-hectare college operates under the auspices of Evangelical Lutheran Synod, located in south-central Minnesota. The memorial library is one of the attractive centres of the campus where students spend their valuable time to learn and enrich their knowledge.

Over 71% of the full-time students of Bethany Lutheran College live on-campus. It’s five residence halls are Anderson Hall, Edgewood Place, Larson Hall, Gullixson Hall and Teigen Hall. The residential student fee of a standard room is USD 1905 whereas for an apartment it is USD 2155 and unlimited laundry facility at USD 30.

  • Anderson Hall: The top three floors from the 3rd-5th floor of the Old Main is the residence hall for women named as Anderson Hall. It has 94 rooms in total with maximum availability of standard rooms and 9 private rooms only. 
  • Edgewood Place: It is one of Bethany's newest two and three-bedroom apartment style buildings built in 2005 for women only. The residential student fee of an apartment is USD 2155.
  • Gullixson Hall: It is a four-floor building built in 1999 in which the first floor of the hall is apartment style and rest of the floors are having standard residence living.
  • Larson Hall: It is an apartment style residence built in mid 1990s located down the hill below the Memorial library for men/women as needed. 
  • Teigen Hall: It is also four-floor apartment style building in which students (men) staying on top three floors and first floor includes the staff offices. 

There are three types of meal plans available: 

  • Continuous Access: Available for Standard Room residential students in Anderson, Gullixson, or Teigen Hall at USD 2,140.
  • Five meals per week plan (88 meals/semester): For apartment residential students in Edgewood Place, Larson Hall, or Gullixson Hall at USD 700.
  • Flex dollar account plan for non-resident students: Students must pay for individual meals displaying ID card. This plan is not available for residential students.

Bethany Lutheran College Programs

The college currently grants 60 academic degrees including 26 majors, 25 minors, 9 pre-professional programs and 17 sports programs (Bethany Athletics is a part of NCAA Division III). The popular courses offered at Bethany Lutheran College are Business Administration, Elementary Education, Nursing and Psychology.

Undergraduate Minor and Major Program

Undergraduate programs of Bethany Lutheran College are of four years duration consisting of minimum 36 credits for major course whereas for minor courses, at least 18 credits are required to be completed. If a student doesn’t want to go for major course, then he/she can apply for minor also.

Pre-Professional Program

Number of students enrolled for pre-professional program at BLC are very less. This course helps students for further studies in their respective areas. The popular pre-professional courses are Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Law, Pre-Medicine and Pre-Physical Therapy.

Admission processes of Bethany Lutheran College, for most programs, vary from one another. However, there are few common steps which all international students have to follow. 

Application Portal: Applications are accepted through Bethany Lutheran College’s online application.

Application Fee: Application fee for the undergraduate admission process is 130 USD.

Application Deadline: The last date to apply for Fall term is May 31 and for Spring term it is November 30.

Admission Requirements: High school certificate, letter of recommendation, certificate of financial responsibility and supporting documents, passport copy. ACT/SAT scores, proof of english proficiency through TOEFL or IELTS score.

Application deadline for academic scholarship is February 28. On-campus interview required for this scholarship is held on March 28.

Work-Study Program

On-Campus: Around 260 students work on-campus while studying and they apply through on-campus student employment department.

  • IRS form W-4 is to be filled.
  • Employment eligibility verification form I-9 need to be filled.
  • Social Security Number (SSN), contact ISS for information.

Off Campus: Students, fulfilling following conditions, can apply for off-campus work while studying at the institute:

  • Must be a full-time student
  • Have a valid study permit/co-op work permit
  • Have already started studying
  • Studying to obtain a degree, diploma or certificate with duration of at least 6 months
  • Have an SSN (Social Security Number)

Bethany Lutheran College Alumni Network

Bethany Lutheran College organizes a Golf event for the alumni as well as a homecoming weekend festival where alumni of every age reunites and share their experiences.
