Founded in 1982, The New York Academy of Art is a private graduate institute located in New York City.   • The New York Academy of Art offers various courses for international students including 5 graduate and certificate programs with around 30 electives to choose from.

Basic Admission Requirements:

  • International students must hold a degree equivalent to that of the US Bachelor’s degree.
  • They should demonstrate English proficiency by submitting test scores like:
    • TOEFL: 80 (Computer-based), 550 (Paper Based)
    • IELTS: 6.5
  • GRE is not required.

Supporting Documents:

  • Certified transcripts sent directly from an undergraduate institution
  • Portfolio:
    • Evaluated on the basis of technical skills, formal awareness, and conceptual development.
    • Maximum of 20 images arranged in chronological order.
    • Should include 5 life drawings and up to 15 additional images.
    • At least half of the images should be from the last year.
    • All images should be from the last 3 years.
  • Personal Statement
    • Should be one page
    • Should list educational objectives and career goals
  • Artist CV
    • Should have an educational background, awards, exhibitions held, etc.
  • References
    • Contact information for each reference is to be filled in the reference tab in the application account.
    • References will be contacted and are required to submit a recommendation on time.

Same tuition fee is charged for all students at the institute including International students. If the student takes up more credits than is necessary for the degree fulfillment, extra rates will be charged. Scholarships/Financial Aid

A large number of internal and external scholarships for international students to study in the USA are available at the institute. These Scholarships are granted based on cultural content and diversity of ideas of the applicant.

Students should make sure that they apply for the scholarship before the deadline that will be posted. This deadline varies for various awards offered. Students can apply for Federal unsubsidized Stafford and for Graduate direct plus loans. For this they have to complete the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA), the loan entrance interview and complete the online master promissory notes.

Some of the studentships vaivale for candidates at the academy are as follows:

  • Academy Merit Scholarship: Scholarship amount ranges from 1000 USD to 15,000 USD per year. All MFA students are considered for this application.
  • Drawing Scholar Award: An amount of 10,000 USD based on the admission portfolio and commitment to drawing.
  • President’s Scholars: Awarded to 0-2 students. Amount of 20,000 USD. Awarded to those who have need for financial aid among those who apply for MFA programs.
