William James College is a college of Psychology situated in Newton, Massachusetts. Earlier known as the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology it was established in 1974 and officially adopted its name William James College in the year 2015. A few popular programs offered by the William James College consists of degree programs in psychology, counseling, applied behavioral analysis and leadership. With only one undergraduate program which was introduced in recent years, the college only specializes in postgraduate and doctoral degrees.

Situated in the Greater Boston area, William James College is known to educate its students both academically and culturally. Providing courses in psychology and mental health-related subjects, the WJC provides growing professionals with more than 350 field placement sites.

Campus

William James College campus is located in Massachusetts, Boston which consists of various departments and centers that help the students to learn and acquire knowledge through first-hand community interaction, such as :

  • The Dr. Lean O. Brenner Center for Psychological Assessment and Consultation – it provides an extensive psychological assessment to determine learning and adjustment disabilities for children, adolescents, and adults. The center is run by senior psychologists, doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows who provide evaluations, reports, consultation on various recommendations.
  • Youth and Family Psychotherapy Services (YFPS) – it is established to support and provide responsive care to youth and families for a wide range of emotional, behavioral and developmental problems. It serves as a training site for advanced doctoral students during their internship.
  • Freedman Center for Child and Family Development – was established to connect children and families to reliable resource providers, to serve their mental health and wellness needs.
  • The Center of Excellence for Children, Families and the Law (CECFL) – it provides services to children and families who face the legal system for any particular personal or familial issue. It also provides professional education, training & development, evaluation services to attorneys, judges, etc.

Accommodations

Finding accommodations in the US can turn out to be quite tougher when it comes to student housing.

Although the college does not provide any residence facility, students can have easy access to basic amenities required for living on campus. 

While the downtown section of Boston tends to be high priced, the communities surrounding WJC tend to have more affordable options. Thus, Students must look for accommodations in the city of Boston, as early as possible.

A great majority of the student population choose to live in communities such as:

  • Roslindale 
  • West Roxbury

  • Somerville, etc.

For someone who is not familiar with the Greater Boston Area, choosing a location can be difficult. Therefore, students are advised to read The Guide to Boston and consult with their advisors about locations that best fit their needs and interests.

Application Process

International students who are looking to get admission in WJC have to fulfill the same requirements as the locals. It is also recommended for the student to have some work experience in the related field if seeking Graduate degree admission.

How to apply – the aspirant must send all the documents and transcripts to the Office of Admissions after downloading the undergraduate application form or make an application online if applying for a graduate program.

Application deadline – different programs have different deadlines. However, for most courses, the general consideration deadline is January 2, 2020, for the Fall Semester. Students are considered for admission after the deadline on the availability of seats.

Scholarships And Aids

The college provides several scholarships and financial aids to its students. Though, international students are not awarded any of them. International students can apply for private alternative student loan providers. One will require a credit-approved co-applicant who is a U.S. citizen.

International students, seeking scholarships to study in the USA may get help from their respective countries’ scholarship programs.

Since William James College is an authorized partner of the Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loan program, Canadian applicants who are looking to enroll for scholarships may refer to the same. 

Work While you Study

The college provides employment opportunities like - Teaching Assistantships and Federal Work-Study Program to its domestic students. The employment positions are funded by the institution and the duration of the job depends on the need of the department.
