Campus

  • SFAI has two campuses- the old campus is located in Chestnut Street in Russian Hill while the recently built 67,000 square ft. the new campus is in Fort Mason.
  • The new campus has nearly 160 art studios, 3,300 square ft. public exhibition place and 24 resident organizations including bookshops, galleries, restaurants, café, art supply stores, and many other resources.
  • The Diego River gallery is a historic part of the Chestnut Street campus to provide students from all programs with an opportunity to present their work through this exhibition space.
  • SFAI provides an opportunity for its students to develop meaningful knowledge through interactive public programs with artists and audiences.

Residence

  • SFAI has two residence halls- Abbey Hall and Sutter hall. All the basic amenities are provided in the fully-furnished rooms.
  • A majority of UG first-year students live on campus.
  • Resident students are required to take a $750 café cash declining balance plan each semester, included in their housing cost.
  • There is also an organic, sustainable menu option.

Programs

  • A few mentionable majors provided by the institute are – Film, Photography & Media; Art & Technology; Painting; Sculpture; and Print Making.
  • BFA students can take a double major option by joining another studio department.
  • SFAI also provides an annual fellowship opportunity for its UG and PG students to work with artists and practitioners in the field.

Financial Aid for International Students

  • The University offers student loans and various scholarships for international students to study in the US. Online application and submission of transcripts are required to avail of the scholarships and loans.
  • International BA and BFA students are eligible for merit-based scholarships based on the academic GPA, portfolio, or critical essay. This amount may range between $10,000 and $17,500 a year.
  • There are a few departmental scholarships, like- BFA Portfolio Achievement Scholarship, BA Critical Essay Achievement Scholarship, and Scholastic Award that international students may avail too.
  • They are also eligible for work on campus up to 20 hours/week
  • International students are not allowed for need-based scholarships.
  • Based on their eligibility, they can also apply for private loans.
