The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University are two Catholic liberal arts colleges in Minnesota that share one academic program while retaining separate dorms, campuses, and traditions. The College of Saint Benedict, founded in 1913, is a women’s college located in St. Joseph while Saint John’s University, founded in 1857, is a men’s college located in Collegeville. 

The two institutions came into a formal partnership 60 years ago. Both the campuses are only 6 miles apart and are surrounded by beautiful pristine forests, prairies, and lakes. Ranked among the finest higher education institutes in the USA, CSB and SJU offer students with several undergraduate and graduate programs. 

Because of the partnership between the two colleges, students get a much larger campus and double facilities while still retaining the small class size and personal attention.

Programs/ Courses at the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University

SJU and CSB have over 60 areas of study with 37 majors and 40 minor programs. Some of the programs offered at the undergraduate level are bachelor of arts, bachelor of science in nursing and so on. 

  • The colleges offer several undergraduate programs in the field of accounting, finance, business, communication, dentistry, forestry, nursing and many more. 
  • Master of theological studies, Master of theology, Master of Arts in ministry, Master of Arts Liturgical music, etc are few of the many graduate programs offered by the unison.

College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University Campus

The campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University are located 6 miles apart and can be traveled via the LINK between both the colleges. This LINK is actually a ten-minute bus service for the students to travel between the two campuses. All the students can enjoy the facilities provided by both the colleges. 

  • Saint John’s University- Originally established for men, this university is expanded on the area of 2700 acres in Collegeville, Minnesota.
  • College of Saint Benedict- This college is established to develop and nurture aspiring young women, located in St. Joseph, Minnesota.

Student Accommodation/ Residence at College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University

With 85% of the students living on campus, College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University offers affordable residence halls to the students. Women reside at CSB and men reside at SJU. All the students can enjoy the amenities at both colleges. The only aspect that is separate for both the colleges are its residence halls. 

  • SJU Housing Facilities- There are several residence halls available for first year, second year and upper class students. The two residence halls for freshmen students are Saint Mary Hall and St. Thomas Aquinas Hall.
    • Saint Mary Hall- This residence hall is available for first-year students. It has 87 double rooms with amenities such as desks, chairs, bookshelves, wardrobe and so on. 
    • St. Thomas Aquinas Hall- Commonly referred to ad Tommy Hall, this hall is available for first-year students. There are 182 double rooms available for freshmen students with amenities such as desks, chairs, bookshelves, wardrobe and so on.
  • CSU Housing Facilities- There are different residence halls for the first year and upper class students along with four apartment complexes. 
    • Aurora Hall- This hall can house approximately 190 students. It has singles, doubles and quads type of room available for first-year students. 
    • Corona Hall- Home to approximately 175 residents, Corona Hall is comprised entirely of double rooms for freshmen students. 
    • Regina Hall- Regina Hall is home to approximately 150 residents. The hall comprises of double rooms and triple rooms for first year students. 

15% of the students who decide to live off-campus, choose affordable student housing options such as homestays, shared or rented apartments, etc. Most of these housing options are found within walking distance of CSB or SJU. 

Application Process at the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University

The applicants are required to submit both the admission and scholarship applications to the universities. The application will be considered incomplete if the required documents are not submitted to the university within the time period.

Application Fee – No application fee is required for applying online at CSB/SJU.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Students at both the universities receive 100% scholarship assistance based on several factors such as academics, financial need, and extracurricular activities. The students are also given employment opportunities and summer employment opportunities on-campus to earn extra dollars during their academic year. 

  • International Scholarships- International students can apply for academic scholarships offered by the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University. An amount ranging up to 28,000 USD per year are available for the students. These international scholarships are offered to students based on academic achievement and financial need. These scholarships are renewable and available for four years. 
  • Academic Achievement Scholarship- Academic Achievement Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievement and contributions made to the school or community. An amount of 12,000 USD- 31,000 USD per year. 
  • Benedictine Scholarship- Awarded to students from low-income backgrounds. An amount of 5,000 USD per year and is renewable each year depending on the academic performance. 
  • Art, Music, and Theater Scholarships- This type of scholarship is awarded to any student who has an artistic skill. The amount ranges from 1,000 USD to 4,000 USD.
  • Student Employment- International students are also eligible for student employment opportunities on campus as part of their financial aid package. Students can earn up to 3,450 USD in a school year. Students are required to work for 10-12 hours per week during the academic year.
  • Summer Employment- International students living on-campus during the summer can work full-time. Students are able to earn 5,000 USD for a full-time summer employment.

    CSBSJU'S ECONOMIC DEGREE

    I had applied for Economics Bachelors program at four different universities, I got a response from three of them and CSBSJU was my preferred college. I had to fill the free common application form, which was available online, and submit a writing sample along with the official transcripts.


    Course Curriculum - 

    Market structures and Firm strategies, International Economics, Quantitative Methods and Dynamic macroeconomics are some of the broader aspects of the curriculum.

    COLLEGE OF SAINT BENEDICT & SAINT JOHN'S UNIVERSITY: HOW AND WHY I CHOOSE THIS UNIVERSITY?

    I choose the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University for my post-graduation because the program I applied for is postgraduate and pre-doctoral program. On completing the program we get the chance to do Research Assistantships to prepare for further doctoral work which for me is an added benefit. So, I applied to the university online, which was free of cost.


    Course Curriculum - 

    MA in Theology is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of theology in a foreign language, and we get to do thesis research and writing. Also, it is a postgraduate and pre-doctoral program and during the course, we are encouraged to pursue doctoral preparation with a second foreign language. By the end of the program, we get the chance to do Research Assistantship as a part of the preparation for the doctoral program.
