The SUNY Upstate Medical University is the only academic medical center in central New York located in Syracuse. It is a transfer/upper-division and graduate school with four colleges. These colleges offer programmes in nursing, graduate studies, medicine, and health profession.

The university offers undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programmes. Distance learning is offered for undergraduate courses and graduate programmes. The university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Upstate Medical University Programmes, Campus and Residence 

  • UG, PG and doctoral programs in the four academic divisions are offered. The college of nursing and health profession offers undergraduate courses. Graduate courses are offered by the college of graduate studies, health profession and nursing. Some programs also offer a post master's certificate.
  • The small campus of the university spread across acres comprises 60 clubs and organizations. Extracurricular roster with intramural sports. It also has the only trauma center of the region. Day care is also available on the campus.
  • On-campus residence is offered in the Geneva Tower residence hall. One, two, and four-bedroom fully furnished suites are available. The apartment is allocated on the availability basis. Short-term housing is also available in the four-bedroom suite charged at a daily basis.

  • General requirements: MCAT scores, AMCAS application, official transcripts, English language Scores, 90 semester hours of coursework in accredited US or Canadian institution.
  • Additional requirements: letter of recommendation by AMCAS, CASPer (Computer based Assessment for Sampling Personal characteristics) Test, supplemental application to University, Valid student Visa.
  • English Proficiency Test: The scores of English Proficiency Test are not required if the student has completed 90 semester hours of coursework in US or Canadian institutions. The TOEFL and IELTS score vary for each academic center. The official website of the university should be visited for details on scores.

Upstate Medical University Scholarships

Only a few programs at the University offers tuition waivers and stipend to international students. Scholarships to international students are not available. Private loans can be applied by the international students with US banks, provided a US resident for co-sign is available
