Alfred State College Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Alfred State assesses Indian applicants on Class 12 marks, English proficiency and program-specific prerequisites. The requirements below apply to bachelor’s admission for Indian students.

  • Academic eligibility: Class 12 completion with 65% to 80% (recommended); nursing and health sciences prefer 70% or above
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 5.5, PTE 46 or Duolingo English Test 90 (all verified minimums)
  • Credential verification: Transfer applicants must submit a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member (WES, ECE or SUNY TEC)
  • Financial documentation: Official bank statement on bank letterhead showing funds for the first year of study

Indian applicants submit through Common App or the SUNY application portal. Alfred State does not require SAT or ACT scores for admission, though SAT scores are useful for some merit scholarships.

Key insight: Alfred State accepts NIOS Class 12, CBSE, ICSE and state board qualifications on equal footing. Applicants with English as the medium of instruction at Class 12 may request an English test waiver from the Office of International Admissions.

Alfred State College Acceptance Rate 2027

Alfred State College reports an official acceptance rate of 63%, placing it in the moderately selective band among SUNY Colleges of Technology. The rate applies to all applicants; international admission rates are typically higher because most Indian applicants self-select into engineering technology, nursing and IT.

The 63% rate reflects that most well-prepared applicants with Class 12 marks of 65% or above and the required English score gain admission. First-year retention is 88%, and the graduation rate is 68.7%, indicating that admitted students generally complete their degrees.

Reality check: The 63% acceptance rate is generous by US standards, but Indian applicants still need to file transcripts, English test scores and proof of funds before the recommended deadline. Missing the financial documentation delays the I-20 by 4 to 6 weeks.

Alfred State College Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Alfred State runs two campuses: the main campus in Alfred and a Wellsville campus focused on skilled trades. Both sit in western New York, a 90-minute drive from Rochester.

  • Location and transport: Alfred is a rural college town in western New York; the closest airport is Rochester (ROC), a 90-minute shuttle ride
  • Housing: On-campus residence halls guaranteed for all first-year international students at $15,500 per year for housing and food
  • Facilities: Applied technology labs, a working farm, a functioning student-run culinary restaurant and a construction management build site
  • Indian community: Small but active Indian and South Asian student presence, with international student office support led by a senior international officer

What Indian students say: Indian bachelor’s students consistently rate the small class size (student-faculty ratio 18:1) as the top benefit. The rural setting is a common adjustment point, but a Rochester shuttle bus and campus events help offset the isolation of a small college town.
