VISA & Work Study


The students who have been admitted to a program of study at the University of Maryland can be applying for either an F-1 or J-1 visa. These are the conditions under which a student in J-1 and F-1 status may work on campus:

  • The student is enrolled full-time.
  • The student will not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year.
  • The student may work full-time only during official university breaks

Work Study

Students can work full-time and are eligible for work-study. Students may only work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session. If students are enrolled in less than 12 credits they must contact OSFA for permission to work more than 20 hours a week when school is in session.
