Goucher College was founded in 1885 as the Woman's College of Baltimore City, Goucher by a group of Methodists led by the influential Rev. John Franklin Goucher. It is a coeducational college with a firm commitment to excellence in liberal arts and sciences education.

Goucher College is a residential campus, where all students are required to live on-campus as part of the institution’s residency requirement although exceptions exist. Thus, about 95% of students live on campus.
The on-campus residence includes seven residence halls, numerous on-campus apartments, and five special interest houses.
Special interest houses are open to new and returning students but the on-campus apartment is only for non-freshman who have completed a minimum of 45 credit with a cumulative GPA of 2.5
All residence halls on campus are smoke-free and students are permitted to identify as transgender during their housing application.
Facilities in the residence halls include common room or lounge, Kitchens fitted with stove, refrigerator, and sink, study areas, vending machines, and card-operated laundry facilities, music practice rooms, and bulletin boards. The students living on campus are required to opt for the mandatory meal plan.
Each student room in the residence hall is furnished with a bed, dresser, overhead lighting, desk, chair, and Venetian blinds

International students are eligible for both Goucher's merit scholarships and institutional need-based grant aid. 97% of students receive financial aid annually.
Most of the scholarships and financial assistance are automatically awarded. However, for the Fine and Performing Arts scholarship program, a separate application is required. Some of the scholarships available for international students are Merit Scholarships and Dance Scholarship worth 1,000 USD to 5,000 USD per annum.
International students are allowed to work on campus 20 hours a week or less during school sessions and a maximum of 29 hours per week during vacation.
A student can also opt for the scholarships to study in the USA other than the college-specific ones.
