Coppin State University is a public university. It is an urban liberal arts University located in Baltimore, Maryland. The University is an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Coppin has a long history of its commencement as a University. It was founded in 1900 and back then it was called ‘Coloured High School’. The high school later changed to become a University.
On April 13th, 2004 the Middle State Association of Colleges and Schools gave its accreditation to Coppins State University. The undergraduate and graduate courses offered at the University are recognised by expert organizations. This includes teacher training programmes, nursing programmes, social work and many others.
Coppin State University offers admissions in 53 undergraduate degrees and 9 graduate degrees. The University consists of College of Arts & Sciences and Education, College of Behavioural & Social Sciences, College of Business and College of Health Professions.

Coppin State University campus is in Baltimore, Maryland. The university only has one campus. There are various services and facilities provided on the campus. Majority of the students choose to stay on campus. The following services are available on campus for all students:
On-campus housing is provided to all admitted students. Once they are admitted they can fill up an application for housing and submit it. Rooms are assigned for a year. After every academic year students need to reapply for on campus housing.

The University is renowned for its Nursing Programme. It offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees for the course. The Maryland Board of Nurses (MBN) has authorised the Nursing programme at Coppin State. The programme has also got certification from the National League for Nursing (NLN). Apart from Nursing, the Social Work Program has received recognition by the National Council on Social Work Education (NCSWE).

Most of the scholarships given at the University are for students who are U.S. citizens or residents of the State of Maryland. However, there are two scholarships available to International students.
On campus jobs are offered to International students. There is an Optional Practical Training (OPT) offered to International students where students can work in the U.S. for 12 months. The work has to be related to the chosen degree. It can be a paid professional job. Students need to apply for this Practical Training.
Off- campus Jobs
Students who are facing financial difficulties are eligible to work off-campus. They are offered on campus jobs as well but if that is insufficient then they can opt this option. The student is required to be enrolled in a full time degree course, good academic grades, F-1 visa status for one entire academic year and a good Coppin State University citizen.
