VISA & Work Study

Most international students at Lehigh University hold an F-1 visa. Some students hold a J-1 visa. Lehigh typically issues a Form I-20 (or DS-2019 for J-1 students) to international students, unless the student is sponsored by another organization such as the Fulbright Program. In that case, that organization issues the DS-2019.

Work Study

  • A student employment or work-study award is an opportunity for a student to get an on-campus job to earn money for college expenses.
  • Federal Work-Study (FWS) or Institutionally Funded Work Opportunity (WOA) are need-based awards that may be offered to students as part of their “self-help.” Through work study, students can earn money to help meet expenses that are not billed by the institution, such as books and other personal expenses. These programs are administered by the Office of Financial Aid in conjunction with guidelines set forth by the federal government.

Career and Placement after Course

  • Join campus clubs and organizations.
  • Use the resources and programs available through OISS.
  • Register for Handshake, a resource provided by CCPD that lets students search for and apply to jobs and research career development resources.
  • Review the “Explore Careers” category in the Handshake Resource Library. They can filter posted positions by OPT, CPT and other options.
  • Create an account with Interstride. As a member of the Lehigh community, they have exclusive access to this career power tool for international students.
