A tour of Earlham University through my eyes
I always had the desire of pursuing my graduations from United States of America. I did a lot of brainstorming and research before applying for this particular University. I had also applied for other reputed educational institutions offering specialisation in liberal arts including Westmont College and Alvernia University. I got selected into the College first and applied through the Earlham Application available on the official website.
The subjects included in my curriculum are the introduction to comparative politics and international relations, introduction to economic theories, social science research methods, senior capstone experience. I was provided with in-depth knowledge and conception about the prevalent socioeconomic backgrounds of different countries in the world and the diplomatic trade relations essential to maintain global peace and harmony.
I always had a keen interest in pursuing international studies, which would render me a proper knowledge about economic policies and trade relations operating among the leading countries in the world. I had submitted my TOEFL test scores of 95 as proof of my language skills getting admission into this college. I was also required to submit a conduct letter that was provided to me by my high school.
The exam structure in Earlham College includes a detailed analysis on the subjects with credit scores assigned to each examination including an introduction to international studies with 3 credit score attached to it, introduction to diplomacy with 3 credits, international trade with 3 credits, the political economy with China and India with 3 credits, international finance with 3 credits, etc. The entire course of studies is compartmentalized into semester examinations.
All my professors here are very cordial and interactive and rely preliminarily on graphical representations to make us understand the essence of the subjects we are studying. They mostly have terminal degrees like Ph.D.'s in environmental studies and MPhil in Economics. My teachers have greatly assisted me to develop a keen sense of understanding about the career-oriented growth which these subjects have to offer. I was taught to communicate my problems, receive solutions for the same, and thus become proficient and attain credibility in my course of studies.
I had paid around $45000 as tuition fees for the first year. The expenses for my hostels and fees sum up to $10000. For my books and other miscellaneous expenses, I had to pay around $2500.
I had stayed at the on-campus housing facility of the university which entailed a cost of around $8000. My transportation and miscellaneous expenses were around $2000 which included meal charges as well.
An online portal regularly publishes information about jobs and posting for us. Employment opportunities in many sectors are provided by my college. Most of my seniors have been placed in renowned firms on attractive packages of up to $60000 per annum.
Yes, our college offers Internship opportunities through an initiative called EPIC. This offer is virtually unparalleled in American higher education. It provided me with an opportunity to build my resume without worrying about an iota about finances.
The University carries out a large series of events throughout the year to maintain a healthy interaction between the students and the college authorities. Some of the prime events which attract the attention of students include Movie Night with Outdoors Club, Brown Bag Recital, Dance Alloy Performance, etc.
