University of Illinois
Review of Online U of I
It was close to where I live and was flexible for working around my schedule. I opted for this college because I lived nearby and it has a really good reputation. The program also really was helpful because it is online and fits to my career as a teacher. I would recommend this program to any teacher that is out there.
The course curriculum was great at integrating both biology and teaching classes. There was a focus on integrating the two together. It was an online program so I was able to take courses at night after I worked. We had classes on different types of biological topics such as evolution and genetics. The teaching courses focused on pedagogy.
I was not needed to take any specific tests for this master's program. I was o my required to be an employed science teacher. My ACT score was 28 in high school and had a 3.0 GPA in an undergraduate degree. I hope that you accept this because I do not remember any other specific requirements for the program.
Many exams were given as projects with clear deadlines. There was one class that I had an actual multiple-choice final exam. Projects and papers were the primary final exam though.
The faculty was very helpful in both the science and education courses. They had a clear curriculum and expectations for their course. It gave students that had a busy schedule a good idea of what needed to be done at all times. They were also always available for questions and graded appropriately.
I used financial aid to pay for my schooling. I am not sure if there are scholarships available for international students though. I would think that they would have those opportunities to help international students though because they are a major university. Again, this was a program made for teachers, so I'm not sure they did.
I lived off-campus, like all the students in the program, because it was an online program. They would offer that to someone if they needed it, but almost all lived nowhere near campus and were older adults.
This is a program for active teachers so all students had a job already. I would say that teachers are able to better themselves through this program though because of the salary schedules that schools work with.
For this online program, there was no internship offered because all students were required to be active science teachers. It also didn't make sense to offer since many of them did not live close to the university.
I am not sure what is meant by this question. The University of Illinois is a major university, so there are many events they have. I did go to the graduation ceremony when I was able to though.
I have received and in the process of paying back financial aid. I did not receive any scholarships for the online program.
Monthly Expense : $200 - $500
