Criminology at University of South Florida

    After securing a GPA of 8, I decided to pursue my bachelor's in the field of criminal studies from the USA as my relatives stayed there. I had selected this university as it is dedicated to empowering students to maximize their potential for lifelong success. I had applied through an online application form at the university after paying an application fee of around $30.

    Course Curriculum :

    My program concentrates on achieving balance in the aspects of the system from the perspective of the criminal justice professional, the offender, the victim, and society. The program provides a solid background in the theory, issues, and methodology comprising Criminology. The program developed a sound educational basis either for graduate work or for professional training in one or more of the specialized areas comprising the modern urban criminal justice system. My area of study was a major of 12 credit hours.

    Exams :

    I wanted to pursue this course as I wanted an in-depth exposure to all facets of the criminal justice system including law enforcement, detention, the judiciary, corrections, juvenile justice and probation, and parole. My university required submission of my IELTS score of 8 and an SAT exam score of 1450. The documents required for my admission were my Official Transcripts, a copy of the photo page of my passport, and my financial affidavit.

    Placement :

    My department provides all students with the opportunity to engage in an internship with a federal, state, or local criminal justice-related agency within one of the surrounding counties. Internships available with more than 100 agencies afford students the opportunity to network and gain practical experience in conjunction with their degree. Candid Career is an online service like your own personal YouTube channel for career advice, interviews with professionals about their jobs and career paths.

    Events :

    Each year, Career Services provides a number of programs to help you explore different occupations and learn about the career options available. A variety of casual and formal programs for employers to meet with USF students and alumni during the academic year, including Careers & Coffee series and Employer Spotlight series. Careers & Coffee events are hosted by individual employers in the Marshall Student Center Atrium on select dates in the Fall and Spring semesters.

    Fees :

    My tuition and fees expenses were around $17,500. The books and supplies expenses for my program were $1200. All international students are required to have health insurance for themselves and their families. I was eligible for merit-based scholarships from the USF Office of Admissions. To be considered for merit-based scholarships from the Office of Admissions, I had to submit a complete admissions application by the priority deadline. I gained an award of around $4000 for my scholarship program.

    Faculty :

    With outstanding faculty and professionals, the University conducts innovative scholarship, creative activity, and basic and translational research, and delivers a world-class educational experience promoting the success of talented and diverse students. There are a number of options to receive academic credit for mentored research experience and to have the experience show on the official transcript.

    Hostel :

    The actual costs of housing are dependent on the type of on-campus or off-campus housing selected. My housing and meal expenses were around $12000. I had to share my room with two other friends. The housing facility was really comfortable, secure, and safe.
