Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik was established through Act XX of 1989 of the Maharashtra State Legislature coming into effect on July 1, 1989. It is a public university. The University holds membership of Association of Indian Universities, Association of Commonwealth Universities, Asian Association of Open Universities and Commonwealth of Learning. It currently offers several offline programs along with online initiatives.
Established in 1989 with its head office at Nasik, Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) is the fifth Open University in India. The university has jurisdiction over the complete state of Maharashtra and operates through its 10 Regional Centers at Amravati, Aurangabad, Kalyan, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Nashik, Nanded, Nagpur, Pune, Solapur and a network of Study Centres (SCs).
The university currently has 183 SCs which offer admission to various Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) level courses. Admission to most of the university courses is done on the basis of candidate’s merit in the qualifying degree whereas separate entrance exams are conducted by the university for specific programmes.

The university offers M.Sc, M.Arch, MBA and M.Com programme and only candidates with the relevant qualifying degree can register for the courses. Those interested can register for admission by filling-in the online application form and submitting the required documents, on or before the due date. Admission to all the PG programmes (except MBA) is done on the basis of marks secured by the candidates in the qualifying degree examination. The university also offers a doctoral research programme viz. PhD in Agricultural Extension with a limited intake. Only candidate who possess PG degree are eligible to apply for the programme. Pre-Entrance Test is conducted by the university in order to shortlist students for admission to the course.
