Why IISERs are different from IITs: IISERs are pure science institutes. There is no Computer Science Engineering or Mechanical Engineering here. The BS-MS structure means you earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree together in five years, with a dedicated research thesis in the final year. IAT is now the only way in: Since 2024, the JEE Advanced and KVPY pathways for IISER admissions have been officially closed. All students — including those with a top JEE Advanced rank — must appear for and qualify the IAT to get an IISER seat. This change was made to bring in students who genuinely want science research rather than treating IISER as a fallback option to IIT.

IISER IAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

You must meet all the eligibility conditions to apply for IISER IAT 2027. The criteria below are based on the 2026 eligibility norms. Minor updates may appear when the official 2027 notification is released.

Academic Qualification

• You must have passed Class 12 (10+2 or equivalent) from a recognised board in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing in 2027.
• Your Class 12 must be in the Science stream with at least three subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
• Students from both PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) backgrounds are eligible.
• PCMB students (all four subjects in Class 12) are also eligible and have a scoring advantage since all four sections count in the exam.

Minimum Percentage in Class 12

The percentage is calculated on all subjects in your Class 12 marksheet. If your board uses grades or CGPA, convert to percentage using the board’s official formula before applying.

Appearing Candidates

Biology questions in IISER IAT are mostly direct NCERT — including specific textbook lines, definitions, and diagrams. PCM students who study NCERT Biology Class 11 and 12 carefully over 5–6 weeks can score 40+ out of 60 in Biology.
