Admissions at University of Groningen are invited once a year for most programs and twice in case of some PG programs. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programs to international applicants. Established in 1614, it is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands and attracts many international students to pursue their higher education from the Netherlands.

Admissions at the University of Groningen are offered in courses which are taught in English and Dutch language. The university offers 120 masters programs in English. Most of the bachelor’s courses are also offered in English. The university offers bachelors and master degrees in fields like Engineering, Business, Law, Arts and Sciences.

COVID-19 effect on University of Groningen Admissions

  • The university has cancelled all physical activities including teaching and gone completely online till the end of 2019-2020 academic year.

  • The application dates for first year bachelor’s students have been postponed from May 1 to June 1.
  • Some Master’s degree program dates are also postponed, make sure to check individual programs.

University of Groningen International Admissions

Admission process at the University of Groningen is more complicated and lengthy for international applicants than Dutch students. Applicants need to register in studielink and finish application on the online application system of the university. The university sends a confirmation e-mail at the start of application. Application for Visa for international students

The students require an MVV visa and/or residence permit for studying in the Netherlands. The university itself applies for the visa and students cannot apply on their own. The university informs students about documents and procedures needed for a visa to study in the Netherlands. Documents that may be required are:

Undergraduate Admissions

The university offers various undergraduate courses through its nine faculties. Some popular bachelor’s courses offered by the University of Groningen are Artificial Intelligence, Astronomy, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Media studies and many more.

Each course has its own subject requirement which should be studied in high school. For UG courses, the enrollment opens once a year only for international students. Almost all programs are taught in English language.
