University of Groningen International Admissions

The admission process of the University of Groningen is explained below in a step-wise manner.

  • Applicants need to register themselves on the Studielink and then apply for the admission on Online Application System
  • After the submission of the application in OAS, the applicant receives an automatically generated email from the system.
  • After this, the applicant receives an email from the Admissions Office which confirms that they have received the application.
  • The admission officers then screen the application for verifying the documents and starting the application process further.
  • The admission board then assesses the forms and documents for up to 6 weeks.
  • The board then decides whether the applicant is ready to get admitted.
  • Next, the applicant gets an offer letter which is to be accepted by the applicant.
  • As an international student, the applicant needs to submit the visa or residence permit in the Netherlands.
  • Next, to complete the admission procedure the applicant needs to submit the following documents

Visa Process for International Students

  • The details for getting the visa are given by the university. It is essential to first get admission to the study programs.
  • The applicant then receives the instructions for MVV or residence permit application through email.
  • Then the applicant needs to send the required documents according to instructions.
  • The documents required are a passport with a minimum validity of six months and financial documents that mention enough funds that the applicant has.
  • The application after the completion is submitted to the immigration and Naturalisation service.
  • The applicant then receives a confirmation email.
  • IND approves the application and sends the approval letter to the ISD.
  • The applicant then receives the approval email from the ISD.
  • If the applicant needs an MVV then the applicant needs to make an appointment with the Dutch embassy for MVV.

Then keep a check on the flight ticket to the Netherlands. The applicant needs to follow instructions from the embassy and collect MVV then scan it and send to ISD.

  • Next, the applicant needs to book a flight ticket and receive an invitation to welcoming ceremony day.
  • Then attend the ceremony and go for joining the introduction programme/faculty and start studying.

For graduate admissions at the University of Groningen, applicants need to follow these steps:

  • Subsequently, applicants are notified about the admission decision.

After the submission of the application, a student may have to wait up to a period of 6 weeks or maybe longer for the admission decision to arrive, in case if the applicant is required to meet certain additional department-specific requirements. There are 3 types of admission decisions that are rendered based on the ability of the applicant to meet the admission requirements adequately, i.e., an applicant is admitted on a provisional basis, conditional basis or not offered the admission. The provisional admission refers to the normal admission process, whereas the conditional admission refers to the condition wherein an applicant not meeting the admission requirements is offered admission if he/she meets certain additional requirements and prove his/her eligibility to study in the university.
