University of Waikato Application Deadlines

2. Submit the online application with no fee. Waikato charges no application fee for international applicants (NZD 0, so INR 0). Upload transcripts, English test score, passport bio page, and your SOP.
3. Receive a conditional offer. Decisions typically arrive within four to six weeks for complete files, often faster during the primary intake pre-cycle (October to December).
4. Pay the tuition deposit for a fee receipt. This receipt is mandatory for the New Zealand Fee Paying Student Visa and triggers your unconditional offer.
5. Apply for your student visa. Submit the Immigration New Zealand application with your fee receipt, passport, and financial proof.
6. Complete arrival enrolment. Final enrolment is confirmed on campus after you present your visa.

Secure your English score early so this does not become the bottleneck.

New Zealand Student Visa Process for University of Waikato

Indian students joining Waikato apply for the New Zealand Fee Paying Student Visa online through Immigration New Zealand after receiving the tuition fee receipt. The visa costs NZD 850 (INR 46,002), and applicants generally need to show full tuition plus NZD 20,000 (INR 10.82 lakh) per year for living expenses, along with the offer letter, passport, insurance and required medical documents.

Students can work up to 25 hours per week during term time and full-time during scheduled holidays, subject to current visa conditions. Students enrolled in eligible Level 9 master’s or Level 10 PhD programmes may also be able to bring eligible dependants on linked visas.

2026 update: From 3 November 2025, Immigration New Zealand raised the part-time work limit for eligible student visa holders from 20 to 25 hours a week. This applies to Waikato tertiary students, so build the extra five hours into your term budget.
