IIT Madras Zanzibar, the first Indian Institute of Management located outside India, and it is all set to create international ties now. It was recently announced that University of Birmingham, with its Dubai and UK campuses, has decided to partner with IIT Madras Zanzibar for student exchange programs.
This news is especially important for the Zanzibar-based students, as they will now get the opportunity to study abroad and carry their project research forward in Birmingham, while being a student at IIT. Outstanding scholars from undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs will gain international educational experience. These student exchanges will also assist the students in gaining extra credits for their degrees at IIT Madras Zanzibar.
Professor Robin Mason, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Birmingham, was elated to announce the news. “Together with our new Joint Masters program, this exciting new student exchange opportunity illustrates how the relationship between IIT Madras and the University of Birmingham is fast developing,” he said.
“We look forward to welcoming students from the new IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus to our beautiful, leafy Birmingham campus and our iconic Dubai facilities as more education and research collaborations emerge as our two universities work ever closer together.”
The agreement which has been signed mentions the foundation of a new Joint Master’s program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The first batch of students has already started its course at the Chennai institute. The new agreement was signed in a special ceremony, with Dharmendra Pradhan, Honorable Union Minister of education, gracing the occasion with his presence.
IIT Madras Zanzibar will begin its very first session of student exchange in October 2023. The institute will welcome 50 undergraduate and 20 masters students in artificial intelligence and data science programs.
