  • The master's in statistics is not the easiest of courses. Based on the electives you take, it can be both theoretical, or practical, or even research oriented. But the academics are good, and I haven't found it difficult at all to cope.
  • Positive aspect - good curriculum, good number of elective options and flexibility.
  • Negative aspect - some inexperienced faculty (mostly asian), that aren't the greatest instructors. But the experienced faculty is really good. Which is the same across any university, I feel.

Fees

  • Fees - USD 17,000 per semester (including tuition, health service fee, insurance, MTD transport fee etc.)
  • The Fees is charged per semester, but is also credit based (although it is the same above 12 credits, which you need to register for anyway)
  • Rent - USD 840 per month (including all utilities like electricity, internet, trash, gas, water) - can get cheaper or more expensive based on location, and number of beds in the apt. I live in a studio in the best location smack bang in the middle of the campus, close to all my classes)
  • Transportation by bus is free for students, and you can get anywhere within the town by the buses (included in the fee you pay)

  • The difficulty level of the course curriculum was especially difficult and required a lot of focused attention to the content. It was a mix of both theoretical and practical learning for most courses. However there were some courses with complete focus on theory.
  • The positive aspects about my course would be the quality of the professors present to teach the content.
  • The negative aspects would definitely be the level of difficulty of some of the courses being extremely high.

Fees

  • The breakdown of the fees is approximately 20k USD for tuition + 6-7k USD for hostel + food for each semester. There are no other charges. Any miscellaneous charges get added to your tuition. The per semester tuition is approximately 30k USD.
  • The feed is charged semester-wise at UIUC. However, if you exceed a certain number of credits per semester then it also increases.
  • There is no expense on transportation and rent for the first year. However, if you choose to live in an apartment, then the rent is approximately 900 USD per month per person for a good apartment and regular expenses include groceries which come up to 500-600 USD a month when living in an apartment. There is no need for groceries when living in a dorm.

  • The course curriculum at UIUC for the MSIM program is a good balance between theoretical concepts and practical application.

  • The coursework is a mix of both, with classes designed to provide a strong foundation in information management theory while also offering plenty of project building courses.

  • I found the curriculum challenging but manageable, especially with a disciplined approach.

I had to finish 32 credits and one of the best parts was there were no required courses. Curriculum was very flexible and the courses have learned not only technical skills but also people skills like presenting to people, researching etc. The faculty student ratio is a good 1:30

Fees

I did an inward remittance from India and paid the fees directly, we can also use flywire. I was lucky enough to get funding for my 2nd and 3rd semester where I got my Teaching Assistantships which helped me with my tuition and living expenses.

The number of credits in this program is 40 credits that you need to complete in the span of 1.5-2 years. I did it in 2 years. The curriculum was diverse enough for students to take what they liked, ranging from courses in tech, management and even consulting.

Fees

The program is pretty affordable as compared to private universities as this is a public university. There are plenty of on-campus jobs that one can take up in order to manage everyday finances along with rent and utilities.

The course curriculum in some aspects is very relevant and dynamically updated but occasionally a little laggard for conceptual topics with little to no changes. UIUC Gies Business does a good job with keeping up with industry trends and provides in class and out of class industry experiences through case projects, assignments and guest lectures.
