The Indian institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has decided to promote students without exams and end the ongoing semester. The institute has decided to promote all students based on a special marking scheme including mid term marks. Furthemore, the institute has also decided to not fail any student, director of the institute Abhay Karandhikar informed.
“Ending some uncertainty for students, IIT-Kanpur has decided to close the current semester (2019-20). As a one-time exception, all the students will be awarded grades for their courses based on mid-semester exam/quizzes/assignments/projects etc such other performance indicators obtained through online instruction during the suspension of the semester and as decided by the instructors, read the tweet by the director.
In the special grading scheme adopted specifically for these extraordinary times only A, B, C and S grades will be awarded and no student will fail.” The S grande stands for satisfactory, he said.” There will be no terminations at the end of the semester and the grading for courses and theses will be completed by June 30.
Moreover, no decision has been taken yet regarding the commencement of the next semester and allowing students into the hostels. “The institute is ensuring the safety and well being of the students on the campus,” said the director.
