The मानवीकरण Behind Every Image in पर्वत प्रदेश में पावस

This is the part that carries the marks. पंत does not describe the monsoon hills from outside. He gives the mountain a body and lets the weather act on it.

• मेखलाकार पर्वत wears a करघनी, a waist belt, so the slopes are read as clothing on a body.
• सहस्र दृग-सुमन turns the flowers on the slope into thousands of open eyes, and with them the mountain studies its own huge form below.
• The ताल at its feet becomes a mirror spread out wide, so the mountain is a figure watching itself.
• The निर्झर do not simply fall. They sing the mountain's गौरव, and the मद in their veins makes the waterfall excited rather than wet.
• गिरिवर के उर से उठ-उठ कर gives the mountain a heart, and the trees rising from it carry उच्चाकांक्षाएँ. They stare at the silent sky अनिमेष, अटल, कुछ चिंतापर, that is unblinking, unmoving and faintly worried.
• In the last stanza the mountain itself flies off on पारद के पर, wings bright as mercury, the शाल sink in fear, and इंद्र sails overhead playing इंद्रजाल.

Every one of these is मानवीकरण अलंकार, which question 1 of कविता का सौंदर्य asks for directly. Name the image, name the human quality lent to it, and say what it adds. Three or four handled well beat a thin list.

The questions stay close to the text and reward re-reading rather than memorising a summary. Note that this chapter has no भाषा अध्ययन section; its place is taken by कविता का सौंदर्य.

A Reading Plan for पर्वत प्रदेश में पावस

The poem is short enough to finish in one sitting and dense enough to need three. Work through the file in passes.

• Read the poem aloud once without stopping. The alliteration in पल-पल परिवर्तित प्रकृति-वेश only lands when you hear it.

• Only then attempt प्रश्न-अभ्यास (ख). All three passages need the image explained, not translated.
