Academic Qualification Requirements

Your qualifying degree determines which programme you can seek lateral entry into through TS ECET 2027.

For B.Tech Admission (Diploma route):

  • A 3-year Diploma in Engineering or Technology from a Board of Technical Education recognised by the State or Central Government.
  • The diploma branch must correspond to an eligible B.Tech branch as notified by TSCHE (see branch mapping below).
  • Students appearing in the final year or final semester of their diploma are eligible to apply provisionally, subject to passing before admission.

For B.Tech Admission (B.Sc. Mathematics route):

  • A B.Sc. degree with Mathematics as one of the main subjects from a university recognised by UGC.
  • Eligible only for specific B.Tech branches as notified by TSCHE in the information brochure — typically Computer Science Engineering, IT and related streams.

For B.Pharm Admission:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) from a recognised institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
  • Students appearing in the final year of D.Pharm may apply provisionally.

Minimum Marks Required for TS ECET 2027

Students must meet the category-wise minimum percentage in their qualifying examination to be eligible. The table below lists the requirements:

Category Minimum Aggregate in Qualifying Exam
General (OC), OBC (BC-A, BC-B, BC-C, BC-D) 45%
SC / ST / BC-E 40%
Physically Challenged (PH) As per TSCHE norms (generally 40%)

The percentage is calculated on the aggregate of all subjects in the qualifying diploma or degree. There is no minimum score requirement in the TS ECET exam itself for ranking purposes — any student who appears and scores above zero receives a valid rank.

Age Limit for TS ECET 2027

TS ECET 2027 does not prescribe any upper age limit. Students of any age who hold the required qualifying diploma or degree and meet the other eligibility conditions are free to apply. There is also no minimum age condition beyond the natural requirement of having completed the qualifying programme. This makes TS ECET accessible to working professionals, students who pursued a gap year and those upgrading their qualifications after employment.

Nativity and Domicile Criteria

Students must qualify as a local candidate of Telangana state to compete for the main quota seats. The conditions for local candidature are:

  • You have studied in an educational institution located in Telangana for a minimum of 4 consecutive years ending with the qualifying exam; OR
  • Your parents have been residents of Telangana for at least 10 years; OR
  • Your parents are government employees or employees of public sector undertakings posted in Telangana.

Students who do not satisfy the local candidate definition may be considered under the non-local quota, which is typically limited to up to 15% of available seats, subject to inter-state reservation rules notified by TSCHE. The detailed nativity guidelines are published in the official TS ECET 2027 information brochure once it is released.

Diploma Stream to B.Tech Branch Mapping

Your diploma specialisation determines the B.Tech branches you are eligible for. The table below shows common mappings based on previous year TS ECET guidelines:

Diploma Stream Eligible B.Tech Branch(es)
Civil Engineering Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)
Electronics and Communication Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), EEE

The exact branch-wise eligibility list is published each year in the official TS ECET information brochure at ecet.tsche.ac.in. Students should verify their specific diploma stream against the notified list before applying.

Lateral Entry Rules for TS ECET 2027

TS ECET is exclusively a lateral entry entrance test. Students admitted through it join the 2nd year (3rd semester) of a 4-year B.Tech or B.Pharm programme and complete the remaining three years of the course. Key rules governing lateral entry are:

  • Seat quota: Lateral entry seats are supernumerary — available over and above the sanctioned intake of each college. A separate rank list is prepared for these seats.
  • Rank-based allotment: Admission is based on TS ECET rank through web-based counselling conducted by TSCHE. Higher ranks get earlier choice of college and branch.
  • Diploma subjects carry weightage: The TS ECET question paper is based on diploma-level subjects. Your score forms the sole basis for ranking.
  • No backlog at admission: Students must have cleared all papers of the qualifying examination before taking up the allotted seat. A backlog at the time of joining makes you ineligible for admission.
  • Original documents required: Qualifying certificates, caste certificate and nativity proof must be produced in original at document verification. Provisional pass certificates are accepted only at the rank-card stage.
