The University of British Columbia BCS Integrated Computer Science is a 20 month full-time second-degree Bachelor programme delivered on the Vancouver campus for students who already hold a first bachelor’s degree. Tuition for international students lands near INR 74.39 Lakhs for the 63 credit minimum load, with one intake each September and a February deadline.

The programme rebuilds a non-CS graduate into an employable software engineer through 22 upper-level CPSC credits plus optional paid Co-op work terms in Vancouver. It suits career switchers from arts, commerce, or non-CS engineering who want a technical relaunch without spending four fresh years on an undergraduate degree.

  • Second-degree structure means credit for your first bachelor’s satisfies UBC’s breadth requirements, so all 63 to 70 credits map to core computer science and technical electives.
  • Co-op placements pay CAD 6,000 to CAD 10,000 per month (INR 3.96 Lakhs to INR 6.60 Lakhs) and typically slot students into Amazon, Microsoft, SAP, and other Vancouver tech employers.
  • Bachelor’s graduates qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit that unlocks up to three years of Canadian work authorisation and a Permanent Residency runway after graduation.

Current Admission Status

Applications for the September 2026 intake are Closed. The international-student deadline for the 2026/27 cycle closed on 28 February 2026; the next opening targets the September 2027 intake.

Indian applicants targeting September 2027 typically start supplemental drafts, referee outreach, and English test preparation from mid 2026 when the CS Department portal reopens.

UBC BCS Integrated Computer Science Fees and Living Costs 2026

The BCS (ICS) uses the Faculty of Science international per-credit rate for its tuition, so total fees scale directly with the 63 to 70 credits you complete. Vancouver adds a heavier cost-of-living load than Toronto or Waterloo, so budget separately for the 20 month runway.

All INR conversions in the article use a conversion rate of CAD 1 = INR 66.00 as of July 2026. Rates fluctuate daily, verify before applying.

  • The 63 credit minimum applies only if prior coursework grants generous bridging exemptions, and most Indian applicants graduate closer to 70 credits due to Communication Requirement top-ups.
  • Tuition rises by no more than three percent per year for four years for students starting in 2026/27, so budget INR 76 Lakhs to INR 85 Lakhs over the full programme.
  • iMED covers the first three months in British Columbia; the mandatory Medical Services Plan takes over thereafter at CAD 75 per month (INR 4,950).
  • The CS Department application fee of CAD 100 (INR 6,600) is separate from the UBC application fee and non-refundable if you withdraw.

Cost of Living in Vancouver for BCS Students

Vancouver ranks among the most expensive Canadian student cities and the 20 month clock adds close to INR 27 Lakhs on top of tuition. The table draws on UBC Student Housing published rates and TransLink U-Pass BC data for the 2026/27 cycle.

ExpenseMonthly (CAD)Monthly (INR)
Rent (shared off-campus or first-year residence)1,20079,200
Groceries and food50033,000

Textbooks, printing, lab kits1006,600
Monthly total2,0481,35,168
Annual total (12 months)24,576INR 16.22 Lakhs

The 20 month total (tuition plus fees plus living) lands between INR 1.04 Crore and INR 1.13 Crore depending on your final credit load and housing choice. See the UBC Vancouver programme profile for how sibling programmes compare on total spend.

ROI reality: A CS median offer near CAD 98,210 (INR 64.82 Lakhs) plus a three year Post-Graduation Work Permit clears the INR 1 Crore programme investment inside 24 to 30 months of Vancouver-based post-graduation earnings.

UBC BCS Integrated Computer Science Admission 2026

The BCS (ICS) runs one September intake per academic year, so Indian applicants now target Fall 2027 after the February 2026 cycle closed. Eligibility rests on a completed first bachelors degree plus a UBC-defined math and communication baseline verified by the CS Department, not by generic UBC Admissions.

Academic Eligibility

Academic screening runs in two layers: first the UBC Admissions Bachelor equivalency check, then the CS Department review of prerequisite math and writing coursework.

RequirementUBC SpecificationIndian Applicant Equivalent
Completed first degreeRecognised Bachelors degree from an approved universityAny three or four year Bachelors from a UGC-approved Indian university
Minimum academic standingOverall B (approximately 76 percent) in the final two yearsApproximately 70 percent to 76 percent aggregate or CGPA 7.5 to 8.0 on 10 for Indian applicants
Mathematics prerequisiteBC Principles of Mathematics 12 equivalentClass 12 Mathematics from CBSE, ICSE, or state board with grade B or higher
Communication prerequisite3 credits from the Faculty of Science BSc Communication RequirementFirst degree taught in English medium satisfies this component for most Indian applicants

WES (World Education Services) or UBCs internal credential evaluator sets the official grade equivalence, so treat the percentage bands as approximate. Prior CS coursework is not required but sharpens the CPSC 110 first-term learning curve for Indian applicants.

English Language Proficiency

UBC accepts five accepted tests and applies a per-section floor for four of them; the BCS (ICS) does not raise the baseline above the general UBC undergraduate bar.

TestMinimum OverallPer-Section Minimum
IELTS Academic6.5No band below 6.0
TOEFL iBT90 on the 0 to 120 scaleReading 22, Listening 22, Speaking 22, Writing 21
PTE Academic6560 in each of Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking
Duolingo English Test125Reading 115, Listening 115, Writing 120, Speaking 120
Cambridge C1 Advanced180Not specified per-section

Note: TOEFL iBT moved to a 1.0 to 6.0 band scale on 21 January 2026. UBC currently lists the 0 to 120 requirement shown above; both scales are reported during the 2026 to 2028 transition. Verify the current requirement on the official admissions page before applying.

  • Indian applicants routinely favour IELTS Academic because prep infrastructure across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai reaches the 6.5 target inside 8 to 12 weeks of structured practice.
  • Waivers apply automatically if your first Bachelors used English as the primary language of instruction, verified through a transcript or medium-of-instruction certificate.
  • Test scores remain valid for 24 months from the sitting date, so schedule attempts inside a two year window before the February deadline.

UBC ranks 45th globally on QS World University Rankings 2027 and 57th for Computer Science on Times Higher Education 2026, so the admission bar reflects a top-50 institution.

Tip for Indian students: Book the IELTS or PTE sitting eight weeks ahead of the February deadline so a rewrite still fits inside the cycle, and submit the higher of your two scores through the official test-provider portal.

UBC BCS Integrated Computer Science Application 2026

The BCS (ICS) uses a dual application: the UBC main application through EducationPlannerBC plus a supplemental CS Department portal that opens later than most Canadian graduate portals. Indian applicants targeting September 2027 treat October 2026 as the practical draft-start date.

IntakeExpected DeadlineStatus
September 2027 (Winter Session Term 1)28 February 2027 (Expected, based on 2026 cycle)Portal opens October 2026

Application Components

The two applications feed a single admissions review, so both files must land inside the window; a missing supplemental disqualifies the whole file.

  • Complete the UBC main application through EducationPlannerBC with the international application fee of CAD 133.65 (INR 8,821) paid online.
  • Submit the CS Department supplemental application via the BCS portal after creating a Campus-Wide Login and pay the CAD 100 (INR 6,600) non-refundable department fee.
  • Upload transcripts from every post-secondary institution, a resume, English proficiency proof, and Faculty of Science Communication Requirement evidence.
  • Nominate two referees who submit their letters online inside the same 28 February window; referees who miss the date break the file.

Timeline for Indian Applicants

The 2026/27 cycle offers a template you can copy for 2027: portal opened October 2025, supplemental and references due 28 February 2026, shortlist interviews in April 2026, and the admission requirements clearance deadline of 30 April 2026. Assume the same pattern for the September 2027 cycle unless UBC publishes an update on the CS Department admissions page.

Application tip: The BCS (ICS) supplemental essay carries as much decision weight as your first-degree GPA, so draft two versions and pressure-test them with a working software engineer or a UBC alumnus in the CS network.

UBC BCS Integrated Computer Science Scholarships 2026

UBC channels more than CAD 35 million per year into international undergraduate awards, and BCS (ICS) applicants qualify for the same automatic-consideration pool as first-degree undergraduates. There is no BCS-specific scholarship, so the maths runs through the general international entry awards.

ScholarshipAmount (CAD)Amount (INR)DurationApplication
International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES)10,000 to 25,000 per yearINR 6.60 Lakhs to INR 16.50 Lakhs per yearRenewable for up to 3 additional yearsAutomatic on UBC application

International Scholars ProgrammeFull tuition plus living stipendFull tuition equivalentRenewable up to 3 additional yearsSeparate application, high-need applicants
  • Automatic-consideration awards trigger from the same UBC application form, so applying by the 28 February deadline is the only step for IMES and OIS.
  • Karen McKellin and the International Scholars Programme require separate nominations and a documented financial-need statement, best drafted in November before the January deadline.
  • Award outcomes for IMES and OIS are communicated between mid-February and end of April, so keep the March UBC portal check-in on your calendar.
  • External India-specific funders (Inlaks, JN Tata Endowment, KC Mahindra) do not fund a second Bachelors, so plan the UBC awards as the primary funding lever.

Scholarship reality: A UBC IMES at the CAD 25,000 tier trims INR 16.50 Lakhs off annual tuition and, stacked across two years, closes roughly one-third of the BCS (ICS) programme cost for a top-decile Indian applicant.

UBC BCS Integrated Computer Science Salary 2026

BCS (ICS) graduates enter the same Vancouver, Toronto, and Seattle-adjacent CS talent market as the four-year BSc Computer Science cohort, and Co-op work terms often convert into full-time offers. Reported UBC Computer Science placements average CAD 98,210 per year (INR 64.82 Lakhs) with a typical entry-band spread of CAD 70,000 to CAD 110,000.

Role / StageGross Annual (CAD)Gross Annual (INR)
Co-op software engineer (per month)6,000 to 10,000INR 3.96 Lakhs to INR 6.60 Lakhs per month
Entry-level Software Engineer70,000 to 110,000INR 46.20 Lakhs to INR 72.60 Lakhs
UBC Computer Science reported average98,210INR 64.82 Lakhs
Senior Software Engineer (3 to 5 years)130,000 to 180,000INR 85.80 Lakhs to INR 1.19 Crore

Source: UBC Placements (Maclean rankings), UBC Science Co-op published salary statistics.

Take-home falls roughly 25 to 30 percent below gross after Canadian federal and British Columbia provincial tax, so an entry salary of CAD 98,210 translates to a monthly net near CAD 5,700. Use a Canada income-tax calculator for an accurate net based on province, RRSP contributions, and health premiums.

Top BCS (ICS) Employers

  • Amazon, Microsoft, and SAP anchor the on-campus recruiting pipeline in Vancouver and typically absorb 30 to 40 percent of the Co-op cohort each cycle.
  • Google, Meta, and Salesforce interview UBC CS students for Seattle and Bay Area new-grad roles that pay USD-denominated salaries.
  • Homegrown Canadian firms such as Shopify, RBC, Hootsuite, and Slack Vancouver hire directly from the BCS pipeline for backend and data engineering roles.
  • Vancouver-based gaming studios (Electronic Arts, Blackbird Interactive) recruit BCS students for graphics and game engineering roles.

Check Out: UBC Vancouver Placement Statistics for Indian Students

ROI reality: A Co-op work term paying CAD 8,000 per month across four months covers roughly CAD 32,000 (INR 21.12 Lakhs), enough to offset one full 15 credit term of international tuition inside a paid Vancouver work placement.

Canada Visa for BCS Integrated Computer Science 2026

Indian applicants admitted to UBC apply for a Canadian Study Permit through IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), and the process now runs through the standard permit stream after the Student Direct Stream (SDS) closed in November 2024. Processing time currently sits between 7 and 12 weeks from biometrics, so file at least 90 days before the September orientation.

  • Proof of funds requires CAD 22,895 (INR 15.11 Lakhs) for the first year of living costs on top of the first-year tuition receipt.
  • A Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from British Columbia is mandatory for the Study Permit and UBC issues it after tuition deposit.
  • The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) unlocks post-graduation work rights for Bachelors graduates and matches the 20 month programme length under the current field-of-study rules.
  • Spouses of undergraduate students including BCS applicants are no longer eligible for open work permits, so plan household finances around a single-income setup.
  • Permanent Residency pathways after the PGWP typically run through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Programme (BC PNP) Tech stream or federal Express Entry.

Read More: Canada Study Visa and PGWP Guide for Indian Students

Visa reality: The 24 hour per week off-campus work cap during study terms limits Vancouver income to roughly CAD 1,700 (INR 1.12 Lakhs) per month at minimum wage, so treat the paid Co-op work term as the real financial lever, not term-time part-time work.

UBC BCS Integrated Computer Science Ranking 2026

UBC sits inside the global top-50 across the four major ranking systems, and Computer Science is subject-ranked separately by both QS and Times Higher Education. The subject rank matters more than the overall rank for a Bachelors graduate targeting Vancouver tech recruiters.

Ranking BodyOverall RankComputer Science Subject Rank
QS World University Rankings 202745Subject-ranked, top 50
Times Higher Education 20264557
US News Best Global Universities 2026 to 202742Subject-ranked, top 60
Collegedunia Study Abroad 202630Top 3 in Canada
  • THE ranks UBC Computer Science 57 globally in 2026, keeping it inside the top three Canadian CS schools alongside Toronto and Waterloo.
  • The QS subject rank places UBC CS ahead of most Indian tech schools including IIT Bombay CS on international employer perception.
  • Collegedunia Study Abroad rates UBC 15 positions higher than QS, reflecting stronger appeal for Indian applicants on visa outcomes and Vancouver salaries.

Also Check: UBC Vancouver Full Ranking Trend and Subject Breakdown

Honest take: A THE 57 Computer Science subject rank clears the top-60 filter that most Indian employers apply to Canadian degrees, so the BCS (ICS) credential earns interview screens at Amazon Bengaluru, Microsoft Hyderabad, and Google India without an additional Masters.

The BCS (ICS) suits an Indian graduate who has completed a first Bachelors, saved close to INR 1 Crore, and wants a compressed 20 month runway into Vancouver tech employment plus a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Skip it if you already hold a CS degree, cannot commit 65 study hours per week in Term 1, or need a Masters credential for research or teaching progression.

BCS Integrated Computer Science FAQs

Ques. Is the BCS (ICS) at UBC treated as a Bachelors or a diploma for Indian employment and PGWP purposes?

Ans. The BCS (ICS) is a full second Bachelors degree conferred by UBC, so it counts as a Bachelors for Indian employer verification, WES equivalence, and the Canadian Post-Graduation Work Permit programme-length rule.

Ques. Can an Indian graduate without any prior Computer Science coursework survive the BCS (ICS) first term?

Ans. Yes; the CPSC 110, 121, and 210 sequence assumes zero CS background, but expect roughly 65 hours per week of lectures, labs, and self-study across the first two terms, so plan for full-time immersion.

Ques. How competitive is BCS (ICS) admission for Indian applicants, and what score profile lands offers?

Ans. Around 60 seats open each cycle across all countries, and admitted Indian applicants typically show approximately 76 percent aggregate or higher, IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 100, and a clear supplemental narrative on the career pivot into software engineering.

Ques. Does UBC guarantee Co-op work placements for BCS (ICS) students?

Ans. No; Co-op runs on a competitive employer-interview model with no placement guarantee, and unhired students are steered into additional CS coursework instead of a work term.

Ques. What is the fastest path to Permanent Residency after UBC BCS (ICS) for Indian graduates?

Ans. Use the 20 month Post-Graduation Work Permit to log skilled Canadian work experience under NOC TEER 1, then file through the British Columbia PNP Tech stream or federal Express Entry inside the first PGWP year.
