Ans. both KMC Manipal and KMC Mangalore are part of the same Manipal group, but they're different campuses with real differences worth knowing: KMC Manipal (Kasturba Medical College, Manipal): older and more established (est. 1953), stronger brand recognition nationally and internationally large campus, Manipal town has a full student ecosystem with multiple colleges more competitive cutoff — general category NEET cutoff ~600+ better research infrastructure, more publications and funded projects KMC Mangalore (Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore): also a strong college, affiliated to Manipal Academy of Higher Education city location in Mangalore — excellent hospital (AJ Institute + Wenlock govt hospital nearby), good clinical variety slightly lower cutoff than KMC Manipal — more accessible option smaller campus feel compared to Manipal, but genuine advantages of a city location for pure brand and research, KMC Manipal wins. for clinical exposure in a city setting with slightly easier admission, KMC Mangalore is a very respectable choice. if you're getting KMC Manipal — take it. if you're choosing between KMC Mangalore and other unknown private colleges, go Mangalore without second thought.Read more

Ques. Which academic books do students of MBBS at KMC Manipal and Mangalore use?

Ans. These are the books I and my peers used as KMC Mangalore MBBS students- For first year- Anatomy : Gray’s (Recommended); B.D. Chaurasia; Netter’s Atlas (must have).  Physiology : Guyton (Recommended); A.K.Jain (not as good as Guyton); Manipal Manual of Physiology (only to pass, last resort).  Biochemistry : Satyanarayan; Beena Shetty (only to pass, last resort). Embryology : Inderbir Singh Neuroanatomy : Snell (For Neuroanat). For second year- Pathology: Robbin’s (This is the only book you need for this subject). Microbiology: Ananthanarayan(Fungus, Virus and Immunology is really good).  Pharmacology : Tripathi (Massive, but required for entrance); Shanbag (only to pass). Forensic Medicine and Toxicology : Pillai (Really good book on this subject). For third year- Community Medicine : Park  Ophthalmology: Khurana (Last minute study) ENT : Dhingra For fourth year: Medicine : Davidson (MUST HAVE, MUST READ); Harrison; Archit Sir (this book is really helpful). For Practical - Macleod’s. Some students use Harrison or Arup Kumar Kunda (this book helps with probable viva questions). Surgery : Bailey (The BIBLE of Surgery); SRB. Some students use Clinical Pearls of Surgery OBG : Dutta ( Always for Obstetrics); Sheila Gyn - Shaws( Recommended) Pediatrics : Ghai and class notes Orthopedics : Maheshwari. Ques. What are the advantages of opting Kasturba Medical College for an MBBS rather than choosing Malda Medical College and Hospital of West Bengal?

Ans. According to the reviews, I read online, the USA, Malaysia, Singapore, etc are some of the countries that acknowledge the dental, or the medical degree offered by Kasturba Medical College. If you plan to move out of the country then Kasturba Medical College can be a good option for you. You will be able to follow through on your plans with ease. Malda Medical College is one of the worst colleges for pursuing medical. It was previously a district health care hospital and there were no plans of turning it into a medical college. It lacks proper medical equipment. The students of this college are people who do not have the money and did not achieve the rank required for studying in government medical colleges.Read more

Ans. Absolutely not! Choosing a college based solely on the state quota for PG is a mistake. You must consider other crucial factors like: Academics, Faculty, Clinical exposure, Central government funding, Peer group, and Diversity. All these aspects are superior in AIIMS Delhi compared to MAMC. Regarding the PG state quota, it's unpredictable what will happen in 5.5/6 years. The quota could be withdrawn, implemented, or changed. Therefore, prioritizing a college based on the current status of the PG quota is shortsighted. At AIIMS, there will always be a preference for AIIMSonian candidates for PG, even if they score the same as non-AIIMSonian candidates.Read more

Ques. How is the Life of a MBBS student at MAMC Delhi?

Ans. MAMC Delhi is one of the most prestigious medical colleges of India and offers an excellent campus life to its MBBS students. Although the authorities will claim its a rigging free college, the reality is you will have to entertain the seniors to a certain extent. There have been instances when juniors have been asked to dance and sing for their seniors. Some might be banned from the library for being a nerd. However, never let your guard down, and always maintain your dignity.  The food is very cheap and tasty. The Nescafe Point serves a variety of snacks and coffees and many other delicacies can be bought from the Departmental Canteen. The college has no caste-based discrimination and there is excellent harmony between the peers. You won't face any major language issues here irrespective of whichever part of India you hail from.  The schedule isn't very hectic and students are given a 15-day break for Christmas and New Year. There are enough holidays to plan trips or visit home occasionally.Read more

Ans. Yes, there is an unofficial annual trip for MAMC 1st year students, usually after the end of 1st Professional Examinations in the month of August. The trip is the perfect break from the tiring exams and is highly looked forward to by the freshers. This trip was initiated by the seniors who also accompanied students on the trip. However, since the trip is unofficial, the students have to bear all the expenses of travel, stay, adventure activities, and meals. My friend was a first-year student at MAMC and his batch was taken on a trip spanning Saattal-Mukteshwar-Nainital. They started the journey with a bus and soon reached their first destination. Instead of staying in hotels, they set up tents surrounded by lush greenery and lakes and waterfalls. They even organized a campfire and played all sorts of games. Many adrenaline freaks also took part in adventure sports like Rock climbing, Rappelling, Kayaking, flying fox, etc.  Overall, it was an amazing experience and I recommend going on the batch trip once with your batchmates.Read more

Ques. How is the girl's hostel of (MBBS) MAMC Delhi?

Ans. Here are some girls' hostels allotted to MBBS students of MAMC Delhi Old Girls Hostel (OGH): This hostel has ripple occupancy rooms with decent bathrooms and below-average mess food. This hostel also has curfew timings of around 11 PM. New Girls Hostel (NGH): This has been newly made with better and modern faculties and single occupancy rooms with a small balcony. The bathrooms were better in terms of sanitation, hygiene, and water supply. The curfew timings are better and students are expected to come back by midnight. This hostel has a Girls’ Common Room, a nice place for group studying and eating. Interns Hostel: This is the worst hostel in terms of construction and building. Most girls are allotted double occupancy rooms and the rest have the same rooms as single-seaters. The rooms were congested with no balconies and ACs were not allowed. Overall, MAMC girls' hostel facilities aren't very good but you will make a lot of friends there and create amazing memories.Read more

Ans. Usually MAMC is the first choice of aspirants. But, a good number of students choose VMMC over MAMC despite getting really high ranks, and having a Delhi state quota. The reasons for this decision are- VMMC is much newer than MAMC, UCMS and LHMC. Thus, it offers a modern and fully air-conditioned infrastructure. Workload for the first 1-2 years is much lighter. There are only semester-end exams. Despite this, the education quality is top notch.  VMMC offers the benefits of an internal PG quota. The batch strength is smaller. This facilitates better interaction with peers and professors. Safdarjung Hospital has the largest OPD in Asia with a dedicated Specialized Burns Unit. So you’ll get more opportunities to learn during postings and internship. There is an entirely separate Sports Injury Centre as well.  The hostels are air conditioned, and the girls' hostel has no curfew. The library reading room remains open 24*7.  VMMC is located in the heart of South Delhi. The best hangout spots like HKV, Dilli Haat, Promenade are all located at a close distance. SN market and South Ex are just 5 minute drive away. Thus, I would recommend you choose VMMC for your MBBS degree.Read more
