Ans. As of 2026-27, there is 1 approved PhD guide for Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery at JNMC: Dr. Priti S Hajare, Professor. As per KAHER rules, a Professor can guide a maximum of 8 scholars at any given time. It consists of 3 theory papers: Paper I (Research Methodology), Paper II (Subject-specific syllabus), and Paper III (Biostatistics). Candidates must score a minimum of 55% in aggregate to continue in the programme. If a candidate fails, they may re-appear; however, registration is cancelled if the candidate fails in 5 consecutive attempts.
Q6. How does the KAHER PhD programme ensure research quality before thesis submission?
Ans. KAHER has a rigorous multi-stage quality assurance process. Scholars must submit half-yearly progress reports, present at two Open House Seminars (I and II), publish at least 2 papers in SCOPUS/PubMed/Web of Science/UGC-listed journals, and present at 2 conferences. The thesis undergoes plagiarism check (permitted similarity index less than 10%) before submission. Three external examiners evaluate the thesis, followed by an open viva-voce defence conducted by a board that includes the Dean, Director of Academic Affairs, Chairperson of the Board of Studies, an external examiner, and the research supervisor.
