The B.Tech fee of INR 5.29 Lakhs for four years is competitive for an NBA-accredited, NAAC A+ private engineering college in Kerala. B.Tech CSE at FISAT benefits from the recently granted UGC Autonomous status, allowing the department to offer an updated curriculum independent of KTU’s standard syllabus. The new specialisation in Computer Science and Design bridges software engineering and UX/product thinking, reflecting industry demand from Kerala’s growing startup and IT ecosystem.

FISAT Admission Process

FISAT follows the KTU-governed admission process for government quota B.Tech seats, with the institution managing management quota seats independently.

B.Tech Admission

B.Tech government quota seats (approximately 60% of intake) are allotted through the state-level KEAM counselling managed by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. Management quota seats (approximately 40%) are filled by FISAT directly, accepting KEAM, JEE Main, or direct 12th merit applications.

  • Government quota eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, minimum 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST)
  • Entrance: KEAM score determines rank in state counselling; management quota accepts KEAM and JEE Main
  • Cutoff context: KEAM rank cutoffs for CSE at FISAT in recent cycles have ranged from rank 8,000 to 20,000 for general category, depending on quota type and specialisation
  • Selection: CEE conducts counselling in multiple rounds; management quota seats are filled by FISAT’s admission committee based on merit

MBA and MCA Admission

MBA admission accepts KMAT Kerala, CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, or state-level management entrance scores. Eligibility is graduation in any discipline with minimum 50%. MCA accepts KMAT PG or graduation merit, requiring BCA or B.Sc with Mathematics at minimum 50%. Both programmes have a limited GDPI component for shortlisted candidates.

M.Tech Admission

M.Tech spots remaining after the main counselling cycle can be filled through spot admission (as currently available for October 2026). GATE-qualified candidates are given priority, but non-GATE candidates with a B.Tech from a recognised institution are also eligible for M.Tech spot admission at FISAT. GATE-qualified candidates are eligible for AICTE fellowships during the programme.

FISAT Placements

FISAT’s Training and Placement Division manages campus recruitment year-round. In the 2025-26 placement season, FISAT recorded 602 offers for its graduating batch. The average CTC in 2024-25 was INR 5.7 LPA, up from INR 3.5 LPA in 2020-21, reflecting a consistent year-on-year improvement. The highest offer in 2024 was INR 15 LPA.

YearOffersAverage CTC

TCS is among the prominent mass recruiters at FISAT, given Kerala’s strong TCS campus presence. Other IT services, product companies, and core engineering firms recruit from the campus. The average CTC trend — from INR 3.5 LPA to INR 5.7 LPA over four years — reflects the improved placement outcomes following NAAC A+ reaccreditation and NBA Tier I accreditation for all programmes.

FISAT Scholarships

FISAT distributes more than INR 12 Crores worth of scholarships annually to enrolled students through a combination of institutional, government, and AICTE schemes. This includes AICTE-administered fellowship and scholarship schemes for eligible students.

ScholarshipEligibilityCoverage

Government quota B.Tech students from SC/ST backgrounds may receive full fee reimbursement under Kerala state government schemes. GATE-qualified M.Tech students receive a monthly stipend of INR 12,400 from AICTE for the full 2-year programme, effectively making the M.Tech programme cost-neutral for qualified candidates.

FISAT Campus and Infrastructure

FISAT occupies a 40-acre campus at Hormis Nagar, Mookkannoor, Angamaly, Ernakulam district, Kerala (PIN 683577). The campus is approximately 35 km from Ernakulam Junction, 25 km from Kochi International Airport, and 5 km from Angamaly town. The Angamaly railway station is accessible, giving students good connectivity from Kochi, Thrissur, and Aluva.

Hostel facilities accommodate more than 1,300 students, with separate blocks for boys and girls. Hostel fees range from INR 27,000 to INR 72,000 per year depending on room type. Academic infrastructure includes NBA-certified labs for each B.Tech department, a central library, innovation and entrepreneurship centre, and a dedicated Training and Placement cell. Sports facilities include cricket grounds, basketball and volleyball courts, and a gym.

The Federal Bank connection brings a corporate culture of financial discipline to the campus governance. FISAT’s Management runs faculty development programmes, industry-institution collaborations, and MOUs with tech companies, which feed into internship and placement pipelines for students.

FISAT vs Mar Athanasius College of Engineering vs Rajagiri College of Engineering and Technology

Engineering aspirants in Ernakulam and the broader Kochi region often compare FISAT with Mar Athanasius College of Engineering (MACE) in Kothamangalam and Rajagiri College of Engineering and Technology (RCET) in Kakkanad. All three are private KTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Ernakulam district.

FISAT: 11 Answered Questions

Which is better, FISAT or CUSAT SOE (mechanical)?

Meghdeepa Mondal
Bipul JhaB.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT)

CUSAT SOE Mechanical is better than FISAT. It is among the most reputed technological institutes in the region. CUSAT offers excellent facilities and opportunities. The Mechanical department has a brilliant faculty base.

According to CUSAT placements of recent years, the average CTC for Mechanical branch is around INR 5 LPA. Godrej, L&T, Vedanta, etc. are among the core companies that recruit through the campus drive. PSU and IT companies also recruit Mechanical Students.

Which is better in terms of placements, SCT Trivandrum or a private college like Rajagiri, FISAT or SCMS?

Nikhil Ranjan
Sangita MukharjeeB.Tech Mechanical Engineering, SCMS School Of Engineering and Technology (2020)

It entirely depends on the branch that you are choosing. If you go for CSE then all the colleges SCT, RAJAGIRI, FISAT, SCMS have good placements opportunities. But in the case of other branches, Kerala colleges have a low level of placement except for NITs and IITs.

Good placements are available only for software firms and not for your core jobs. All the colleges above are good and will help you to attain the skills required for different jobs.

And everything depends on you how much effort you will give to your course so that you can obtain experience as well as knowledge so that you can get a good job apart from your college placements

Should I join CUSAT or FISAT for CS engineering?

Diksha BoseB.Tech CSE, IIT BHU (2019)

Both the Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT) and Federal Institute of Science And Technology (FISAT) are very good institutes and have almost similar rankings in the state of Kerala. Now you can compare both the institutes on various parameters. I have taken two broad and the most popular parameters for this comparison.

Placement - In this regard, the School of Engineering (SoE) of CUSAT is better than FISAT. According to the recent placement statistics, the average and highest CTC offered at CUSAT is 4 LPA and 15 LPA respectively. Cochin University College of Engineering Kuttanad (CUCEK) campus of CUSAT is also similar to SoE in terms of placements.

Infrastructure - Here FISAT takes an upper hand and has better facilities than both SoE and CUCEK. SoE is slightly good and is comparable to FISAT but CUCEK lacks a lot of facilities compared to both.

So it totally depends on you and what your priorities are. If you only aim for placements then choose CUSAT. If you want good infrastructure, then FISAT is preferable.

How good is the E&I department of FISAT?

Gargi SenguptaB.Tech from Federal Institute of Science and Technology (2019)

The E&I department at FISAT is an exceptional one. I have a friend who attended the institute and here’s what he had to say about it. If you have a general idea about instrumentation and are determined regarding it in the future then FISAT would be the best fit for you.

  • At FISAT, you would come across the best of lab facilities which are not available in many institutes, and the finest faculty base.
  • This institute provides an environment for the growth and development of personality. You would be able to create memories to cherish forever in this college. Enjoying your college life would not be troublesome as there are present many spots for you to hang out with your friends around the campus.
  • Unlike other colleges, FISAT is quite on the lenient side. The authorities are not that strict about uniforms and wearing ID cards.
  • Placement opportunities are decent given you do not have any backlogs. It wouldn’t be wise to expect offer packages from core companies. Unless you tend to be exceptionally skillful and hardworking in your field or have contacts with higher-ups and influential people, landing a good placement in core companies would be of great difficulty.

Overall FISAT will give you a great college life and good facilities.

Academics: (Winning Institution - Amrita University)

  • The syllabus and especially the question paper is not the traditional type but rather stimulates you to think.
  • They have a much advanced, updated curriculum and it is possible because they don’t come under any university and hence have the liberty to mold according to the latest industry standards.

Placement: (Winning Institution - Amrita University)

  • It is not easier to get placed from Amrita because you study in Amrita does not mean you will get high placements because the crowd in Amrita is more competitive.
  • All those who missed out on JEE come to Amrita. Top companies like Microsoft, Facebook, CISCO recruit only from Amrita out of those mentioned.

Campus Life: (Winning Institution - Amrita University)

  • The clubs in Amrita are almost international, as it conducts the prestigious ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest). Which itself is a benchmark to look for, acknowledging non-premier institutes like IITs, NITs, and BITs.
  • The clubs in Amrita are more diverse and active. It's tech-fest ANOKHA is also much better.

If you don’t have a blend with a very diverse crowd go for Amrita. Going by all the factors mentioned above, it is safe to say that Amrita University is a better alternative.
