GGI B.Tech Lateral AI & ML FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) regular and B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) Lateral Entry at GGI?

Ans. The regular B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) is a 4-year program (8 semesters) starting from 1st year after 10+2, covering foundational engineering subjects in the first year before advancing to core AI and ML topics. The Lateral Entry program is a 3-year program (6 semesters) that allows diploma holders to directly enter the 2nd year, skipping the first-year foundational content. Both programs are affiliated with IKGPTU and lead to the same B.Tech degree with identical recognition for employment and higher education. The lateral entry route saves one year and is ideal for diploma holders in CSE, IT, or allied engineering branches.

Ques. Which AI and ML tools and frameworks are covered in the B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) Lateral Entry program at GGI?

Ans. The program covers Python programming, R for statistical computing, machine learning algorithms (classification, regression, clustering), deep learning frameworks, neural network architectures, natural language processing techniques, and computer vision applications. Students also work on AI-driven analytics projects and gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools used in AI development. The curriculum is designed to align with current industry requirements, ensuring graduates are proficient in the tools demanded by top tech companies and AI-driven organisations.

Ques. Is Punjab PET (LEET) mandatory for B.Tech Lateral Entry admission at GGI, or can I apply directly?

Ans. Punjab PET (LEET) is not strictly mandatory for admission to GGI's B.Tech Lateral Entry program. GGI accepts both IKGPTU centralized counselling (which uses Punjab PET / LEET scores) and direct merit-based admissions through its own portal (apply.ggi.ac.in). Students who have not appeared for Punjab PET (LEET) can still apply directly to GGI based on their diploma merit. However, appearing for Punjab PET (LEET) gives access to IKGPTU centralized counselling, which covers a wider range of affiliated colleges and may offer more seat options.

Ques. What are the career prospects for B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) graduates from GGI?

Ans. Graduates of B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) from GGI can pursue careers as Machine Learning Engineers, AI Architects, Data Scientists, Software Developers, Cybersecurity Specialists, and Data Engineers. Entry-level salaries in the AI and ML field in India typically range from Rs. 4 to 10 LPA, with experienced professionals earning Rs. 15 to 30 LPA or more at top tech companies. Top recruiters from GGI's AI & ML programs include Sifars, Oriental Outsourcing, Grazitti Interactive, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL, and Accenture. The AI and ML field is one of the fastest-growing globally, with strong demand across IT, healthcare, finance, and e-commerce sectors.

Ques. Can B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) Lateral Entry graduates from GGI pursue M.Tech or higher studies?

Ans. Yes, B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) graduates are eligible to pursue M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence, M.Tech in Machine Learning, or MBA programs. IKGPTU offers M.Tech in CSE (Artificial Intelligence) and related specializations for which B.Tech CSE graduates are eligible with a minimum of 50% marks. Graduates can also appear for GATE to pursue M.Tech at IITs, NITs, and other premier institutions. The degree is nationally recognized and accepted for postgraduate admissions across India. Graduates may also pursue MS programs abroad in AI, Machine Learning, or Data Science.

Ques. How does the AI & ML specialization at GGI compare to a general CSE degree in terms of job market value?

Ans. The AI & ML specialization at GGI provides a distinct advantage over a general CSE degree in the current job market, as employers increasingly seek candidates with specific expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven technologies. The specialized curriculum covers neural networks, deep learning, NLP, and computer vision, which are in high demand across industries. While a general CSE degree provides broader foundational knowledge, the AI & ML specialization equips graduates with targeted skills that command higher starting salaries and faster career progression in the technology sector. Both degrees carry the same IKGPTU affiliation and recognition.
