KJSCE B.Tech Robotics & AI FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the 4-year B.Tech and the 3-year lateral entry B.Tech in Robotics and AI?
Ans. The 4-year B.Tech program is for students who have completed their 12th standard and covers foundational engineering concepts in the first year before specializing in Robotics and AI. The 3-year lateral entry program is designed for diploma holders or students who have completed their first year of engineering at another university. This program directly enters students into the second year of the B.Tech curriculum, allowing them to complete the remaining 3 years of specialized study in Robotics and AI. Both programs provide the same quality of education and degree, but the lateral entry program is more suitable for students with prior engineering knowledge who want to specialize in this field without repeating foundational concepts.
Ques. Can I apply for lateral entry if I have completed my first year from a private engineering college?
Ans. Yes, you can apply for lateral entry if you have completed your first year B.E./B.Tech from any UGC-approved university, whether it is a private or government institution. The key requirement is that your university must be recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). You must have passed your first year without any backlog and scored at least 50% marks (45% for Persons with Disability). Additionally, your first-year branch should be relevant to Robotics and AI, such as Computer Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related branches. You will be admitted to the same branch in which you completed your first year at your parent institution.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing this B.Tech?
Ans. Graduates have excellent career prospects in the rapidly growing robotics and AI industry. Career paths include Robotics Engineer, AI/ML Engineer, Autonomous Systems Developer, Data Scientist, AI Research Scientist, Embedded Systems Engineer, and Robotics Consultant. Employers include multinational technology companies (Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco), automotive companies (Tesla, BMW, Hyundai), manufacturing firms (Siemens, ABB), defense organizations, healthcare technology companies, and numerous AI and robotics startups. The average salary for B.Tech graduates in this field ranges from INR 8-10 LPA for entry-level positions, with opportunities for higher packages in specialized roles and companies. The demand for AI and robotics professionals is expected to grow significantly, with AI projected to create around 2.3 million jobs globally.
Ques. Is the lateral entry program recognized as equivalent to the 4-year B.Tech degree?
Ans. Yes, the lateral entry B.Tech degree is fully recognized and equivalent to the 4-year B.Tech degree. Both programs award the same Bachelor of Technology degree from K. J. Somaiya School of Engineering (KJSCE) and are recognized by AICTE and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The degree certificate does not differentiate between lateral entry and regular admission. Employers and higher education institutions recognize both pathways equally. The only difference is the duration (3 years vs. 4 years) and the entry point (second year vs. first year), but the academic rigor, curriculum content, and degree value are identical.
Ques. What is the total cost of the B.Tech lateral entry program including hostel accommodation?
Ans. The tuition fees for the 3-year B.Tech lateral entry program is INR 5,41,105. If you opt for hostel accommodation, additional costs apply: Triple Sharing Room costs INR 2,55,651 per year (for second and third years), and Double Sharing Room costs INR 3,82,499 per year. Therefore, the total cost for 3 years with hostel would be approximately INR 8,52,407 to INR 11,66,497 depending on room type. Hostel is optional, and many students opt for off-campus accommodation. The college also offers scholarships and financial aid programs that can help reduce the overall cost. Additionally, the application fee of INR 2,000 is non-refundable and must be paid at the time of application.
Ques. How is the admission process conducted, and what documents do I need to submit?
Ans. The admission process for lateral entry is merit-based and conducted in multiple rounds. After submitting your application form with the INR 2,000 fee, your merit is evaluated based on your diploma or first-year engineering performance. Provisional seat offers are communicated via email. Once you receive an offer, you must pay the requisite fees by the deadline to secure your seat. Required documents include your allotment letter, mark lists from all semesters of your diploma or first-year engineering, SSC and HSC certificates, college leaving certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, medical fitness certificate, and self-attested copies of all documents. For first-year engineering transfers, you also need official transcripts from your previous college, MHT-CET or JEE score card, and migration certificate from your previous university. All documents must be self-attested with date and submitted as per the college's verification schedule.
