Khalsa College of Engineering & Technology Amritsar B.Tech {Lateral} Mechanical Engineering: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. The lateral entry programme admits Mechanical, Production, Automobile, or related branch diploma holders directly into the second year of B.Tech Mechanical Engineering. The programme spans three years and on completion awards the same B.Tech Mechanical Engineering degree as the regular four-year route. The course is AICTE approved and affiliated with IKGPTU, Jalandhar.

Ans. Candidates must hold a three-year Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, or a related engineering branch from a recognised polytechnic with a minimum of 45% marks. Admission is through the Punjab LEET 2026 examination conducted and regulated by IKGPTU.

Ans. Candidates register for Punjab LEET through the IKGPTU portal, appear for the examination, and join centralised counselling based on their LEET rank. On allotment to KCET, candidates report for document verification on the date specified and pay the first semester fee to confirm the seat.

Ans. The total academic fee for the three-year lateral entry programme is INR 2,77,000, payable in instalments each semester as per the KCET fee schedule. Fees are subject to revision by IKGPTU for the 2026-27 session.

Ans. Lateral entry students cover years two to four of the B.Tech Mechanical curriculum, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, manufacturing processes, theory of machines, CAD/CAM, industrial engineering, automation, and robotics. A project in the final semester provides practical design and problem-solving experience.

Ans. Graduates can pursue roles as production engineers, design engineers, quality assurance engineers, and plant operations managers in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and energy sectors. They are eligible for GATE to pursue M.Tech at IITs and NITs and can also appear for PSU recruitment examinations in mechanical engineering.
