MIT-WPU B.Tech Lateral FAQs
Ques. Does a B.Tech from lateral entry at MIT-WPU carry the same recognition as a regular B.Tech degree?
Ans. Yes. The B.Tech degree awarded to lateral entry graduates at MIT-WPU is identical to that awarded to regular B.Tech graduates. The certificate does not indicate lateral entry and is equally valid for employment, government job eligibility, and higher education including M.Tech and MBA admissions.
Ques. Which admission route should a Maharashtra Diploma holder prefer: DSE CAP or MIT-WPU direct?
Ans. Both routes lead to the same programme. DSE CAP is centralised and may allot a college other than MIT-WPU based on merit and preference order. The MIT-WPU direct route guarantees a seat specifically at MIT-WPU subject to eligibility. Candidates who specifically want to study at MIT-WPU should prioritise the direct route and also register for CAP as a backup.
Ques. Can I apply for a B.Tech lateral specialisation that is different from my Diploma branch?
Ans. Lateral entry rules generally require the Diploma branch to be relevant to the B.Tech specialisation. DTE Maharashtra DSE CAP specifies approved branch combinations in its official guidelines. For the MIT-WPU direct route, candidates should confirm branch eligibility with the admissions office before applying, as cross-branch applications are not routinely permitted.
Ques. Can students from states other than Maharashtra apply for B.Tech Lateral at MIT-WPU?
Ans. Yes. Candidates from outside Maharashtra can apply through MIT-WPU’s direct admission route by the June 5, 2026 deadline. The DTE Maharashtra DSE CAP route is intended for Maharashtra Diploma holders. Out-of-state applicants should use the MIT-WPU direct portal and submit their Diploma marksheets and documents as required.
Ques. After completing the lateral B.Tech, am I eligible to apply for M.Tech through GATE?
Ans. Yes. A B.Tech degree from MIT-WPU through lateral entry qualifies for GATE eligibility on the same terms as a regular B.Tech. Graduates can apply for M.Tech programmes at NITs, IITs, and other AICTE-approved institutions through GATE, subject to each institution’s qualifying criteria.
