SHEAT B.Tech Lateral CSE AI ML FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech {Lateral} CSE (AI & ML) and the regular B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) at SHEAT?
Ans. The regular B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) is a 4-year programme starting from the first year, open to 10+2 students with JEE Main scores. The lateral entry B.Tech {Lateral} CSE (AI & ML) is a 3-year programme for diploma holders and B.Sc. graduates who directly join the second year, skipping the first year. The annual fee for the lateral entry programme is Rs. 85,000 compared to Rs. 1,00,000 for the regular programme. Both programmes lead to the same AKTU B.Tech degree upon completion.
Ques. Can a diploma holder from any engineering branch apply for lateral entry into B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) at SHEAT?
Ans. Yes, as per AKTU and UPTAC norms, diploma holders from any branch of Engineering and Technology with at least 45% marks (40% for reserved categories) are eligible for lateral entry into B.Tech CSE (AI & ML). There is no restriction on the diploma branch, so students from Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or any other engineering diploma can apply. However, students from a CSE or IT diploma background will find the transition smoother given the subject overlap.
Ques. Is CUET mandatory for lateral entry B.Tech admission at SHEAT, or can I get direct admission?
Ans. CUET (Common University Entrance Test) is the primary qualifying exam for lateral entry B.Tech admissions through UPTAC counselling in Uttar Pradesh. However, if seats remain vacant after all UPTAC counselling rounds, SHEAT may offer direct admission based on diploma/B.Sc. merit. It is strongly recommended to appear for CUET and register for UPTAC lateral entry counselling to maximise your chances. Direct admission is subject to seat availability and is typically processed from August onwards.
Ques. What subjects will I study in the lateral entry B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) programme at SHEAT?
Ans. Since lateral entry students join the second year directly, they study the same curriculum as regular B.Tech students from the second year onwards. This includes core CSE subjects like data structures, algorithms, operating systems, computer networks, database management systems, and software engineering, along with AI/ML specialisation subjects such as machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision, and data analytics. Students may also need to clear certain first-year subjects as bridge courses as per AKTU norms.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing B.Tech {Lateral} CSE (AI & ML) from SHEAT?
Ans. Graduates of this programme are eligible for the same career opportunities as regular B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) graduates. They can work as software engineers, machine learning engineers, data analysts, AI developers, and business intelligence analysts in technology companies, IT firms, and startups. The AKTU B.Tech degree is widely recognised by employers across India. SHEAT's placement cell has facilitated placements with companies like TCS, HCL, and Infosys, with packages ranging from 3-6 Lakhs+ per annum.
Ques. Does SHEAT provide any bridge courses or additional support for lateral entry students who join from non-CSE diploma backgrounds?
Ans. SHEAT provides orientation and bridge support for lateral entry students to help them adapt to the CSE curriculum. As per AKTU norms, lateral entry students may be required to clear certain first-year subjects as additional papers during their programme. The college's faculty and lab facilities are available to all students equally, and the dedicated Training & Placement Cell provides additional coaching and skill development support to help lateral entry students compete effectively in campus placements.
