SHEAT D.El.Ed. FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between D.El.Ed. and BTC? Are they the same course?
Ans. Yes, D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education) and BTC (Basic Training Certificate) are the same course. BTC was the old name used in Uttar Pradesh for the 2-year teacher training programme for primary level teaching. The Government of India renamed it to D.El.Ed. as part of the Right to Education (RTE) Act implementation. At SHEAT, the course is listed as BTC on the official website but is the same as D.El.Ed. The degree/diploma awarded is now officially called D.El.Ed.
Ques. Is D.El.Ed. admission at SHEAT done directly or through the UP state process?
Ans. D.El.Ed. admission at SHEAT is NOT done directly. It is a state-controlled process managed by the UP Pariksha Niyamak Pradhikari (PNP), Prayagraj, through the official portal updeled.gov.in. Candidates must register on the UP D.El.Ed. portal, receive a state merit rank based on their 10th, 12th, and graduation marks, and then select SHEAT as their preferred institute during online counselling. Direct admission to D.El.Ed. is not permitted in Uttar Pradesh. Students cannot approach SHEAT directly for D.El.Ed. admission.
Ques. After completing D.El.Ed. from SHEAT, can I get a government teaching job?
Ans. Completing D.El.Ed. makes you eligible to apply for primary school teaching positions (Classes 1-8) in Uttar Pradesh. However, to get a government school teaching job, you must also qualify the UPTET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test) Paper 1 (for Classes 1-5) or Paper 2 (for Classes 6-8). After qualifying UPTET, you can apply for government teacher recruitment through UP Basic Education Board (UPBEB) when vacancies are announced. D.El.Ed. from a NCTE-recognised institution like SHEAT is a valid qualification for this purpose.
Ques. What is the duration and structure of the D.El.Ed. programme at SHEAT?
Ans. The D.El.Ed. programme is a 2-year full-time course divided into 4 semesters. The curriculum covers subjects like Child Development and Learning Process, Pedagogy of Language (Hindi/English), Pedagogy of Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Social Studies, Science, Art Education, Physical Education, and Work Education. A significant component of the programme is the School Internship (Practice Teaching), where students spend time in actual schools to gain hands-on teaching experience. The programme is designed as per NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) guidelines.
Ques. What is the UP D.El.Ed. registration fee and what documents are required?
Ans. The UP D.El.Ed. registration fee is Rs. 700 for General/OBC candidates, Rs. 500 for SC/ST candidates, and Rs. 200 for PH (Physically Handicapped) candidates. This fee is paid online during registration on updeled.gov.in. Additionally, a seat allotment fee of Rs. 5,000 is paid during counselling. Documents required include: 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates, graduation mark sheets and degree certificate, domicile certificate (UP), category certificate (if applicable), Aadhaar card, passport-size photographs, and character certificate.
Ques. Can I pursue D.El.Ed. after B.Tech or engineering graduation?
Ans. Yes, D.El.Ed. is open to graduates from any discipline, including B.Tech/engineering. The eligibility requires a 3-year bachelor's degree with minimum 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) from a recognised university. B.Tech graduates who wish to transition to a teaching career at the primary level can pursue D.El.Ed. However, it is worth noting that D.El.Ed. qualifies you only for primary level teaching (Classes 1-8). If you wish to teach at the secondary level (Classes 9-12), you would need to pursue B.Ed. instead.
