SMIT B.Tech {Lateral} Data Science: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. The regular B.Tech CSE (Data Science) is a 4-year programme starting from the 1st year (1st semester), open to Class 12 pass-outs. The Lateral Entry B.Tech CSE (Data Science) is a 3-year programme where eligible Diploma holders or B.Sc graduates are admitted directly to the 2nd year (3rd semester), skipping the first year. Both programmes lead to the same B.Tech degree from Sikkim Manipal University. The lateral entry route saves one year and is ideal for students who have already completed a relevant diploma and want to upgrade to a full engineering degree. The fee structure and curriculum from the 2nd year onwards are identical for both routes.

Hostel is optional but recommended given the remote location of the campus in Majitar, East Sikkim.
