Ques. As a lateral entry ME student at SMIT, will I have access to the same labs and workshops as regular B.Tech ME students?
Ans. Yes, lateral entry students at SMIT are fully integrated into the regular B.Tech ME batch from the 3rd semester onwards and have access to all the same facilities. This includes the Fluid Mechanics Lab, Thermal Engineering Lab, Dynamics Lab, Strength of Materials Lab, CNC machines, and software tools like Pro-E, ANSYS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CATIA. The bridge course conducted during the induction period (July 24-26, 2026) helps lateral entry students align with the foundational knowledge covered in the first two semesters.
Ques. What are the Honours specialisations available for B.Tech ME students at SMIT, and can lateral entry students opt for them?
Ans. B.Tech ME students at SMIT can opt for Honours specialisations in Automotive Engineering, Robotics and Automation, and Machine Design (available from the 2022 batch onwards). Lateral entry students who join in the 3rd semester are generally eligible to opt for these specialisations, subject to meeting the academic criteria (CGPA of 7.5 and above in the first six semesters).
